Tyson how are you liking it over at JCT? I just got the message that I am approved but it will be a couple months unless things change as I have some things to do before I make the change.

I had to do the Smith System, too. Our test was a road test. With eight drivers crammed into a broken down van. With the gas gauge not reading anything, but the red 'fuel low' light on. Our drives were about one block each and we DID make it home with gas to spare!

The only thing that's irritating about the Smith System, to which I was first exposed for some reason during my original driver license training in 1967, was the 'check the mirrors every 5-8 seconds.' As OTR drivers, you know how silly that is when you're driving a pretty much empty freeway at night going long distances. If there's no light in your mirrors, there probably isn't anything to look for or at. You could probably check every 5-8 hours and be safe! It was my only gig on the test.

The variable lease is the one main reason I am very disappointed that JCT didn't want me as a driver. As you wrote in a very early post, handling a truck-only payment after either a slow week or a week off is a whole lot less shocking than the 'normal' $800-900 weekly tab most other L/P companies want.

I had a drop and hook in Perry going to Mesquite, TX. I have a friend on here from south Georgia who's in his third month with JCT and he's running strong.

With you it was all about you living in Michigan wasn't it? You know, the old, "It's not you, it's me", lol. I hope Gordon treats you right. I'll be watching your thread!

Unloading in winter haven fl. Second delivery for me today. Started the day thinking I would be relaxing all day, however a phone call from dispatch changed all that. Ran down to wildwood to drop/lock up my trailer and take another drivers load to Phoenix industries in winter haven then back to connect to my load now here I am. Been beautiful weather all day.

Were you, by chance, parked at the Flying J in Lake Park yesterday? I parked beside of a JCT Prostar yesterday while I took my 30 minute break.

Hi TysonDriver1, still here, getting ready to hit the road again tomorrow. Sorry haven't posted lately, had a super-busy 17-day run, this time without my better half to post our adventures! It was a productive trip, will try to post some numbers later when I'm re-united with my steno-pad. I don't seem to have much time left after the planning, driving, eating and sleeping, etc. Basically went from FL to CA and back with some zig-zagging around TX and OK in between. I enjoyed it, even ended up on a night schedule, which I enjoyed because of the light traffic, and easy-to-find parking at the end of each shift! The last load from Russelville, AR to Tampa, Fl was a bit tricky on the recap; I would start in the early evening with just a few hours left on the 70, stop for a break prior to midnite, then hit the road just as I gained more hours at midnite...

Hoping to stay in the southern tier again this time out, and pick up that same trailer I had on my last load: brand new Utility with only 4hrs on the reefer unit! Dual tires but new of course, brake pads thick as phone books, side skirts, everything clean, pulled like a dream.... oh well, maybe never again. Only downside, a noisy Carrier unit, but at least it had simpler controls, displays.

Truck is coming up on an oil change, my first with it; I think Sharpp said he likes using Petro or something like that, so I'll have to work that in. Until later, be safe everyone and stay warm, will post more when I can!
