Howdy y'all...I know I haven't been on here in a while, but I thought I'd jump on here to share my misfortune this morning...
I left Salt Lake City, UT. at 04:00, and about 05:45 in Fillmore, UT. (I-15 SB around mm 168 , I saw two deer in my headlights. I slowed down a bit, with the help of my light load and jake brake, and the first doe scooted off to my left. The second doe must have been a bit slow, because she just looked up at me as if to say "huh?" I hit her dead (no pun intended) center, and got off at exit 167 and parked at Miller Chevron. I called it in as I inspected my truck, and found the damage to be my radiator, grille, bumper, and a crack on my hood. Breakdown got me a wrecker to tow me 121 miles back up to Salt Lake City where I am now. I didn't see the additional smaller cracks on the hood until I was able to inspect it further at the body shop. I tried contacting Cheryl Owens about a rental truck, but I think she had already left for the day, so I'll call her again tomorrow. I would've normally gotten a room for the night, but the Sundance Film Festival is going on up here right now, so there aren't many rooms to be had. The estimate is just over $7000, and my truck won't be ready before friday. Looks like it's going to be a cold night, because my apu isn't working right, but I couldn't run it anyway with the hole in the radiator leaking out my coolant. Oh well.....at least I didn't run into the herd of antelope I saw close to the road coming west on I-80! Have a good one y'all...be safe.

...by the way, I had a comforting conversation with Lisa Radford regarding my deer strike. The results of which put me at much greater ease. I really am happy working with JCT. Things like this could be much more difficult...and I'm sure at some other carriers, it is! Thanks to JCT for being there when I need them.

Well just got off the phone with Joanna and she is going to be running my reports to see exactly where things are. Supposed to call me later today or tomorrow morning with an answer.
Sorry to hear (read) about your truck there Truk hope everything is smooth going on the repairs and you get rolling soon.
Hope everyone out there has a great day of running.TrukTuff Thanks this. -
OK, a few questions about JCT.
#1. I know you have to run to make money and I'm fine that. But I simply HATE anything north of VA and east of WVA. So is it forced dispatch at JCT or can you run where you want?
#2. Home time. How long do you find that you have to stay out at JCT as a L/O to make a good living, cover everything with the truck and still have some to put back for just incase? I have a family and I'm good with staying out for a month, then a few days off but anything beyond a month away from home, not so much.
#3. Trucks. Are the trucks worn out that new drivers pick from? Does JCT go over them and fix things like worn brakes, tires, broken lights, oil leaks and what ever else or do they leave all of that for the next guy?
#4. Can a person jump right into a new truck or do you have to prove yourself first in an older one?
#5. What about company discounts on tires, oil changes and such?
Thats all for now. I guess I could call JCT but i would rather get all of this from those who have their hands on the wheel rather than a computer desk.
Thanks!88 Alpha and luvtotruck Thank this. -
Child I would think all of those can be answered in the previous 2006 post but maybe not, I suggest that maybe you skip through this thread from the beginning. Take Care Good luck.

Jct doesn't dictate how much time off you take. They ask for 10 days notice to get you home. Me personally I make sure when I go home my bills for the next month are paid to give me my breathing room.
The trucks range from new to 500k jct does go over them to make sure they are road worthy and meet DOT SPecs. Also if the trucks available the day you go through orientation aren't new enough to make you happy they do allow you to trade up after 90 days. But if there is a new truck available you could get lucky in day one.
we get a discounted rate at JCT and the surrounding dealerships. We have a fuel discount of a nickel kickback per gallon at the loves, pilot, and flying j.Child of God, luvtotruck, TrukTuff and 1 other person Thank this. -
I second that, especially question #3. I have looked at some other companies and their lease programs and starting out in a truck with over 500K on the clock is pretty routine. There are new trucks available with JCT quite often and there are ALWAYS low-mileage trucks available (presumably turned in by drivers who failed because they don't read this thread! LOL).
luvtotruck, TrukTuff and 88 Alpha Thank this.
