Treat the truck selection as a business decision! You will get a sheet that breaks down the cost of each unit. Think hard about that shiney new truck. Mine is a 2012 with a few miles but my CPM payment is lower and 1 1/4 years shorter. Once its paid for my income will almost double....heck, I might even make close to a union driver!

Get one with an APU! The fuel savings will easily pay for the added cost. Fuel at Loves or Pilot/Flying J to get your rebate. National average is $3.90, with the rebate I'm averaging $3.68 a gallon, so well below national average. At 6.8mpg its $0.54cpm fuel cost minus the current $0.44fsc means I pay a total of $0.10cpm in fuel costs. If I can hit 7mpg I will get that to $0.08cpm. (A ScanGaugeD would pay for itself in 3 weeks!)

To find the lowest prices use the macro on the Qualcomm. If you have a smart phone get the apps for all the major retailers to find the best prices. I use the Loves the most. Will be fuelling tomorrow at $3.63 thanks to those apps.

I used to work for Kag West in southern California, we drivers got together and voted the teamsters in. The month after the vote went through Kag lost the Arco account and laid off around 50 drivers out of long Beach, colton and San Diego terminals. Then it was chevron, then Mobil. There's only a handful of drivers left from those terminals . This was 2 years ago this month. And the teamsters are still fighting/negotiating with kag!

Jct doesn't sound bad. I do like running out west too. I just don't want a freightliner or pro star. Just me.. Keep up the good work sharp

Well, I have had a few issues since coming on board with JCT, but you'll have issues anywhere you go. The important thing is that nothing has come up that I haven't been able to resolve with the help of JCT staff. I've been kept busy (roughly a 3000 mile per week avg.), and that also makes me happy. Overall, I am happy with JCT and feel it is a great fit for me.

BTW, I don't think I'm some sort of "Super Trucker." There is a story behind my handle, which was given to me by an old friend who was an O/O.

If you check the JCT website, the have links to the specs and pics of most of the trucks that are available. The only trucks that are missing are the newest Cascadias.

I picked my current truck up 04-17-12 and it had 88,500 miles on it. I just went over 300,000 today, and I am happy to tell y'all that I haven't really had very many problems with it. I really like the DD-15 engine...with my only complaint being that a P/M runs about $400 (depending on where you go). Even with that though, I'd go with the DD-15 every time.
