I like the idea of a smaller fixed amount for the tractor, then having a per mile amount... If we have down time, the static costs put a BIG dent in our wallet!! (We aren't with JCT)...

An example would be driving along in the flats and running up and over a small, rolling hill, then back to the flat. If you leave the CC set at 65, it will call for more fuel to keep you at speed while climbing the hill. You reach the crest of the hill doing 65 then, depending on the speed limit and your company's policy, you either coast down increasing speed to 70 or 75 or you flip on the Jake to hold your speed.
The most efficient way to tackle that hill is to either coast over it if it's small, or use your foot to give just enough throttle to crest the hill at the minimum safe speed. You then coast downhill to regain your cruising speed or using enough throttle with your foot to hit your cruising speed when you reach the bottom. Only then do you re-engage the cruise control.
I know that this is very elementary and has been covered on TTR extensively in other threads. But that's pretty much all that I do.luvtotruck and JustDoc Thank this. -
