Thanks again for this amazing thread! It helped to ease a lot of our concern to go on the choice program!! Originally we were going to have to wait until October to start, but a truck became available for my husband to start 8/19. We are really excited to start this new chapter in our lives. Drive safe everyone!!!

Sure thing....first off, it's my first time being a lease operator, so far it's been a good experience, it's different from being a company driver, more rewarding and more responsibilities. I decided to join Schneider cause of the Choice Program (pick your own freight), it's way better than being on a forced dispatch when you are a company driver. And you are left alone to do your own thing, it's been almost 3 weeks that I've been with Schneider and I've got only 2 messages on my Qualcomm, no more getting bothered by a dispatcher telling you to do this or do that, lol....
Ive heard some people say it's hard to make it as a lease operator, I don't think so. Just drive and do the most possible like if you were a company driver, actually I run less miles now than I did as a company driver, first paycheck I brought home $1500, and this last paycheck was around $1800, I can do better, my first week i was stuck running in the Northeast running heavy loads over 40,000 lbs, and lots of hills. Been planning my loads 2-3 days ahead, and aiming for loads under 20,000 lbs, which I've been lucky, except this last one, the load board said 19,000 lbs, turned out to be in Kilos, which was 42,005, I delivered today, was due tomorrow Monday 12th. I burned up 3/4 tank just to deliver this load, yikes! But good thing it paid $2.52 per mile, but was looking for more revenue
, my next load I'm picking up in Spartanburg, SC, it's tomorrow at 8am, so I'm going to do a 34 hour reset, i still got 2 more pre assigned loads setup. To do that, without screwing up, is to do lots of trip planning and checking out the Atlas on what hills or mountains you gotta go thru which you lose time.
If you have anymore questions, feel free to ask.The Stump Guy Thanks this. -
No CB, had one, but sold it to a dude at a truck stop, that sounds YUMMY, I'm hungry already, wish I knew before, was in Atlanta yesterday going around the I-285 bypass to head here to SC. I know for next time, I just look for a driver with a CB next time, thanks though!!
