Running With Shipex

How do you wash the trailer and have it dry for new pick up. Food places see water on the floor and refuse to load, thinking it might be damaged trailer. I mopped once and the dang shipper started arguing with me about damp stains on the floor, refused to load, and had my dispatch send another driver. Terminal manager was pissing flames, told me never wash the efin trailer again!!!

 

That wasn't a van with a wood floor, was it?

 

It was a reefer, with a wood and metal floor...

 

How do you like the opti idle, are you able to sleep? Saw somehwere were a driver said he was getting hot and couldn't sleep because it doesn't cut back on until it's already too hot in the truck.

 

That makes little sense to have such a setup, since you can't really "wash" wood.

 

Yeah I know, that was my company driver days with NEMF.., they went under few months ago. Plenty of bad practices by them.., not only busted equipment but terrible management! There is still a ton of wood floor reefers out there, and guys get them cause they're cheaper or at least they think they are. Not my choice though..

 

I guess my initial comment/question was worded the wrong way. But anyways how long it takes for a trailer to dry before going to pick up, and I simply mean this from a technical point of view? I would like to know what experiences you guys have with this?! In case I come across a reefer in need of wash and don't wanna take the chance if it takes a week before dried off completely!

 

In my reefer days after a washout I’d set the temp to like 60 and flip it on continuous. The air circulating will dry it out pretty quick, although it’ll defrost often as it’s literally working out all that moisture that’s on the floor. I’ve also had to washout and then drive like an hour where the shipper needed the trailer precooled to a certain temp. For instance like -20 for ice cream. Set it and forget it. The pure circulation will dry it some, freeze dry some, and cause a skating rink back there some. All part of the game.

So in other words it shouldn't be done the same day or it might be asking for trouble, unless all water is squeegeed out some how?! But thanks, this is good info...
