That normally happens. These guys come in gung ho, pumped up coz they have a colourful truck satellite everything etc...

A couple months down the road they realise it isn't what it's made out to be. Treated like a slave, forced to drive 550 miles a day. Forced per diem.

550 miles times 6 days is 3300 miles. At 50 cents a mile that works out to $1650. Shipex pays $1154 and $250 of that is forced per diem.

No wonder they can't keep drivers.

I've seen guys get hired on saying they will retire here. 2 months later they are gone. Some don't even last that.

    Draw your own conclusions...

Not every butt fits in every seat. He tried it, found something better. Is that wrong?

I talked to a few drivers there..two had been there five plus years and liked it. I know another who got canned because he didn't meet the mileage requirement. He is doing good elsewhere now. Does seem like they need to increase the salary....its been the same for a while now.

With the high cost of everything these days I wouldn't do any kind of OTR work for less than $1800/week.

Have you seen the prices of housing these days? Even apartments are sky high. Cost of food, cleaning supplies everything going up by the day. So, the $1154 Shipex pays is a pittance. Take out $250 per diem for road expenses and after taxes you will have $500 left. That's after taxes.

$1800/week is actually a fair salary by Shipex mileage. 550 to 600 miles a day times 6 days is 3600 miles a week. An experienced driver would be making 50 cpm. 3600 times .50 is $1800- right on the money.!!!!

And remember all that time on the road you are a living in a 6 by 6 foot box with no sanitation, no amenities and all the time being talked down and treated like dirt by some 23 year old college graduate who has never set foot in a truck.

Plus you are despised by management and seen as an 'expense'. Don't forget being away from family.

$1800/week...if I can't get that I drop down to local, make my $1250 or $1300 a week and that's it. At least I sleep in my own bed every night and see my family on a daily basis. Plus weekends off.
