Chris, I am very proud of you as a new driver. You are already driving as if you had a lot of experience. Reading your post about really trying to get your load off early was quite impressive! There are a lot of experienced drivers that are clueless when it comes to that! You are doing an excellent job (even without a trainer!) and I think you are on track to do very well in trucking. I am glad you broke down right away, this is exactly what you needed to prove to yourself that you are more than capable to take the bull by the horns and get it taken care of! A lot of drivers would have quit and gone home, and yes some of your first loads are tests to see what you can handle! Great job man, keep it up! I really admire your positive attack on trucking!

Or get a convoy on a poker run through a state that stop at a few truck stops! Would not be surprised if this already happens but never seen one durring my trucking days.

Hey Chompi- I think it's a good idea but getting the shirts to people and other stuff may be the ''devils in the details'' I don't drive but think it's a good idea. I have told so many people about this website and how much fun it is, friendly and informative I think TTR should give me a kickback LOL!!!:biggrin_2559: Really though when I was brand new to this life- I learned SO much from everyone on here and I still do. Now I can have fun and learn and will keep saying, this is 'family!'

Hi Chris! Hope your tractor is hanging in there. The Iowa 80 TS maybe just the answer.

CPAPE, The truckers jamboree might be the perfect test bed for this gathering. Chances are good that some TTR members will be attending that event anyway. And it has all the elements already in place. So your idea of piggy backing that event is solid. We could reserve a space for a minimal investment and see what kind of response we get. A 10' x 10' tent rents for $535. I don't see a problem with being able to raise funds for that.

ZNINE, I love convoys, but I think being in one spot may serve more people for the initial TTR get-together. Of course a rolling show would be cool.

CHOMPI, TTR T-shirts is a great idea! You know selling them at a minimum mark-up could fund this whole operation. If this becomes a yearly event, it will most likely be self perpetuating. The t-shirt sales each year could sponsor the tent. I would vote for name tags. It'll keep the cost of the shirt price down.

SAMMYCAT, My coffee was truly s*#$%@ up this morning. If we try to put this together we would need an anchor person. Some one who could see to the details. I may have ideas, but I might not be the best choice. Driving might get in the way. This might be one of those times where it would make sense to have a few volunteers to help out with the details.

Now this sounds like a great idea, but I don't believe this gathering, as cool as it would be, can be up to me. But I have an...IDEA!

Maybe a thread can be started to discuss the feasibility of reserving a spot at the truckers jamboree for July 2011.

Everyone feel free to chime in.

I really like this idea of a gathering as well as the T-Shirt Idea, and I have an idea for some entertainment:

Driving Competition they have them all over the country, basically they have to back and do other maneuvers with different size trailers and different trailer combos like Doubles and triples.

heres a link to a story about one:http://www.dispatch.com/live/content/business/stories/2010/08/06/skills-on-big-wheels.html

just an Idea to think about.........

I think that if the gathering has enough gas to stand on it's own, this can be the kind of activity that could incorporated. People want see more than a bunch of people saying......"is that it?"

    Gotta run...

Wedge--a 10x10 doesn't seem to provide much meeting room if many people show up. You should try to get the "officials" from this board to find a corporate sponsor (Pilot/Flying J, a cell phone/wireless internet provider, etc) and have a big ### tent. I would think if the right person contacted the right person a wireless internet provider would be happy to drop a couple grand to have a real tent...and provide advertising for air cards and cell phones. THINK BIG!
