Yes, Sammycat I know who Chris is. You missed the heavy sarcasm poking fun at the fact his thread seemed to be getting hijacked. It seems everyone else came to this realization as well.

    OK.

I made the fix. 'TTR Member gathering thread' is now active in:

"General...Anything and Everything"/ "Discussion about Everything"/Anyone Interested in a TTR Member Gathering"

    or something to that effect.

    What I miss?

Blue Screen, chralb and sammycat Thank this.

Ahh cpape- sometimes I am slow and in my defense I am a blonde!!:biggrin_25522:

Yeah Chris knows we hijacked his thread ages ago!! But at least while we are hijacking it we keep it alive! Same in ORG's thread on Swift!
Besides we gotta give Chris some ''light'' reading when he is on line again!!!

Great ideas guys/girls! The scene from "Convoy" keeps popping into my head when you guys talk about meeting up! Hell, I think this would make a good reality show! Better than "Ice Road Truckers".

    sammycat Thanks this.

Nothing new from our man Chris for awhile. Hope all the mechanical troubles right out of the gate didn't chase him away. Coping with all the 'ins and outs' of being a trucker can be challenging at first. Add to that the uncertainty of whether or not the equipment will perform its job when needed creates a stressful situation for anyone.

When you are able to read this again Chris, and assuming you are out on the road, you may want to try and pull in to the TS's that have a McDonald's. Many of them will have free wi-fi. You'll see the TS billboards on the road before you have to exit and usually they will indicate what, if any, type of restaurant is available inside. Here's a link to help find the ones with free wi-fi: http://www.mcdonalds.com/us/en/services/free_wifi.html. All of the big 5 TS's offer wi-fi by the hour, day, or month as well. Its unlimited too so you can bring your 'puter in with you and stream your favorite TV shows on Hulu while you eat!

Don't be too disappointed that you got a Volvo instead of a F/L. If room inside the sleeper is your main concern, I suspect you'll be more pleased with the Volvo. So far I've had 2 Volvo's, a 670 and a 780, a F/L Cascadia, and a Pete 387. For comfort, storage and livability, the Volvo is my favorite (especially the 780 with the workstation/dinettte table). Most of the Volvo's though seem to have a problem with the throw of the headlights on the low-beam setting. The wrap around lens covers get scratched and pitted so that they diffuse the light to the point where its very difficult to see far enough ahead to safely drive the speed limit at night. W/S is not likely to replace the lenses but the shop will polish the covers to restore them to almost new condition. Mike (shop foreman in Missoula) even said he would authorize having it done at an auto body shop if necessary.

If you remove the lower cabinet behind the passengers seat it creates a great space for a dorm fridge, a microwave on top of that and then a printer on top of the oven (helpful for printing out the street directions for finding the downtown retail outlets for all those furniture stores!! :0[... ). Or you could take out the passengers seat altogether and do something similar. Add to that a George Foreman Grill and a crockpot ( Gawd, its hard to drive with the aroma of stew from the crockpot wafting around in the cab ), a 32 inch flat screen fastened to the wall at the foot of the bed, a telescoping and adjustable satellite dish on the back of the cab, and perhaps a little surround sound system and voila`, the pangs of regret that you are not with the ones you love might subside for a few brief moments.

Hope all is well with you amigo. Look forward to hearing of your latest adventures.

BTW...you can download a 60 day trial of MS streets and trips here: http://www.microsoft.com/streets/en...A&refcd=go000347s_microsoft_streets_and_trips. It stays on your HD so you can check routing even without an internet connection. VERY helpful for finding those retail outlets. If you add a GPS locator and mount your laptop near the drivers seat you have yourself a nice big screen GPS at a fraction of what a Cobra 7700 or Rand McNalley TND would cost.

    I would...[IMG]

We already do this for our bikers site BON (Bikers Or Not) so we know they're members at the meets.

Great idea Chompi and it works well.

LOL...no problem buddy. :biggrin_255: I'm having fun watching this idea grow. But I do agree that not everyone here is reading my little thread so it definitely needs a thread of it's own. I'll tell ya, and idea like this will take time and effort to "start" but once it gets rolling, it'd be hard to stop.

I think cpape's idea is a CAPITAL ONE!!

I'll post when I get back folks. Thanks for keeping up the thread! :biggrin_25514:

Hopefully the hurricane does not kick NJ too bad.
