Pilot access card?? If you mean internet access? Wel, basically you connect to the network, then fill out a regisrtation and create a "log in" account. Then you can buy several different options for time. 60 minutes for 2 bucks, 24 hours for 5 bucks and so on. You can buy right up to a year. A couple more runs like this one and I just might.
BUT...getting through the process is PAINFULLY slow and actually eats up a few minutes of the time you bought to do so. Once through that, the connection is pretty fast and works ok.
The 300 watt inverter (29 bucks at a Pilot but you can probably do better elsewhere) runs the laptop just fine. Also handles all the various battery chargers I have and also works well for my clippers so self done hair cuts are once again possible...LOL
I want to try my heating pad (for my back) but I'm afraid if I do, I won't be the only thing SMOKING in this truck!Last edited: Sep 10, 2010
Wedge and Blue Screen Thank this. -
OK, let's see if I have time to do this now...LOL
EDIT: LOL...I just had to buy more time. By the time I was done typing this, it had run out....LOL Geeezzzz...so I just splurged on 24 hours for five bucks even though I won;' be here that long....
So, as Sammy cat said, they pulled my Denver run from me. Said another driver was in line first. That's cool and actually worked well as I wanted to get the headlights polished anyway. So I set it up Wednesday night for 6:00 am Thursday morning. But then they threw that little 200 mile run at me and when was it do to be delivered? YEP...you guessed it, 6:00am Thursday morning....
But I wanted to do my part to help out so I took it. That's about where the "good" part of it ended....LOL Looking back it's actually pretty funny but I was a tad TIGHT during the process....LOL
So I sat there at the terminal 6:00pm hooked to a trailer that only had to go 100 mles TWELVE hours later. So, me being me (rather get there early and wait than be late), decided to work out my 14 so I could leave as early as possible, get down there and just sleep until it was time to deliver. So I found a rest area just ONE mile from the drop. COOL RIGHT?? Yep...IF it had been OPEN...LOL I got there and it was closed.
Never having been to this place and to late to call anyone there, I didn't know if I could park on site. So I doubled back 20 miles to a Pilot but YEP, it was WAY too late, a small TS and TOTALY crammed. SO I pulled out and boldly parked on the ramp next to it right in front of a NO PARKING on ramp sign...LOL I didn;t care. At this point I hadn't slept in like two days, it was almost 11:00pm and I was done. So park I did.
Well...I got about an hour of sleep (so did another trucker who parked right behind me) when the cops came by, flashed the lights, cranked the siren and the parked at the bottom of the ramp to watch us. I wondered about it but decided to ignore it....LOL Well...about an hour later they did the same thing. OK...OK...I get the hint, or, should I say WARNINGS....LOL SO did the guy behind me and we both left.
So, I decided I better go find this place for delivery and just hope I could park some place as they don't BUDGE from thier appointment times. Remember I said God works in ways we simply can't see upfront? Well, it's a darn good thing it all happened like this because the address for this place was NOT right. I pulled in and yep, it was a warehouse, lots of trailers and such. The guard comes over and says...ummm...are you supposed to be here at AVON?? LOL...Ummmm...nope!
Gotta make this short here now. So I spent the whole night searching around (actually walking as this is a tight area for such a small truck...LOL....and finally found it with about a half hour to spare. So if that cop hadn't chased us off that ramp, I'd have been SO LATE!! LOL
The icing on the cake? The guy comes over to me and says, "hey, drop that trailer right here, hook up that empty at the dock, drag it out, hook yours back up and dock it and then hook up the empty and beat feet with it. By that time I'll be back with the bolt cutters for the trailer seal!" LOL
I'm like, so now I'm a yard dog too?? LOL But I did it all and it was done.
So yep, I'm REALLY happy with this 2600 mile jaunt from GA to OR now. Sitting in Higgensville MO right now after 678 miles. I'd have done more but getting through St. Louis took FOREVER at roughly a 10 MPH average from start to squirting out the other end...LOL
Most of the ride from GA to there was a driving downpour which was good, the truck really needed a cleaning after sitting for basically 3 days in that dusty GA yard getting things fixed....LOL
But, I have new tires, a working cruise control, POLISHED headlights (what difference) just in time for night driving in the rain. Yep, God knows what he's doing and I still have NO CLUE!!!
And that's cool cause I'm having a BLAST and loving life!!Last edited: Sep 10, 2010
Fratsit, gdyupgal, Rattlebunny and 8 others Thank this. -
Who are you refering to halfburn? I posted a while back that I had a 4k mile week so if your comment is directed at me you might want to get that bs meter recalibrated....
-
Chris, you owe me nothing dude. I'm just glad to see you really get the wheels turning and making money. You're a good guy and went threw a tough patch in life so if I can play a small part in your success with trucking that's reward enough.

Yo, Mike NC, who is this halfburn cat. Apparently he is a truck stop deliverer. He needs to go work for May........ Good luck to ya Chris.....
chralb Thanks this. -
Thank you BIGMONEYTRUCKING!! -
All I am saying is use your head before posting something and trying to call someone out when you are 100% wrong. Sorry dude I know NC and he runs just fine lots of miles like myself before I started this new run I am on.
Good luck to you. Try not to make enemies by posting something like that again. -
Well, it's 1:24am and I'm getting ready to roll out. One heck of a storm here in Higginsville MO last night and it's raining and storming now. Listening to the weather band, there's flash flood and tornado watches right in my path.....
This is gonna be one CLEAN truck when I hit Portland!
By the way folks, I bought 24 hours of internet time here at the Pilot at around 3:00pm yesterday right? Well as of now it told me I had 39 minutes left.....
And I thought I was bad at logging......LOL
Till next time folks!wulfman75, the flying scotsman, difference-maker and 5 others Thank this. -
hey chris.
just wanna say thanks man for all the posts and for starting this thread, for somebody looking to start out in this game (hopefully with WnS) these threads are so helpful for noobs, giving a detailed account from start to finish of what trucking really involves.
We all know the recruiters just want bums on seats and sometimes tell "mistruths", so somebody like you who tells it as it happens is worth its weight in gold, so yeah thanks, and thanks to all the other guys out there who have a wealth of information, cagetrucker, mike_nc, wedge, org, to name a FEW.
God willing you will have safe trip to portland and my prayers are for no tornado's or flash floods in your way. Oh and if your ever stuck in portland or missoula on a restart lemme know, i may be in the area.Wedge Thanks this.
