Hey guys I got this info off a Central driver. It is his pay stub and breakdown as an owner operator. I thought you guys would find this interesting if not be able to use some of the info so that you can start practice running as an O/O. I think in another 12 months Chralb might be ready to make that leap and possibly some of you other guys. Check it out:
Here's a breakdown of one of my recent paystubs (pre-tax earnings) as an o/o. There are two checks here for one week. The second check was for doing some extra crap for my DM on one of the loads. Also, my fuel expenses were higher than what I want. I run solo and don't do all that much special. What you're not seeing is the following week after the checks below (last week) which was a bad week. I ended up doing close to two 34s last week. So some of the following plus some of this current week has to make up for the bad week. I thought I'd share so others can see what an o/o breakdown looks like realistically. I've been able to have these checks at least 3 of four weeks a month and a third that is somewhere between $300 - $700 unless they keep me rolling hard. The problem is the balancing act - keeping enough money in the bank to buouy the bad weeks. And just for reference, the following is not indicative of what you will make as a l/o or o/o. There are a ton of variables in the mix here so your experience may vary (hopefully better as I believe my experience is relatively mediocre)

Wherever you see D gal that is a fuel stop.
Keep in mind roughly 1800 miles a week is your break even point, any miles after that is where you start to make money.
    Hope this help guys!

    Wedge Thanks this.

Now now kiddies (cage & cpape)...lets play nice.....:biggrin_2559: (just kidding)

Truth is, I've spoken to both of you and know you each a little now. You're both good guys and would most likely get along well if you knew one another.

Thanks for the compliment Cage and I'm glad to be here at WS. I should have been more detailed about the pay here but I was in a rush. There are other perks like the fuel bonus and pay for D&H and dock bumps too. But it's the miles that work best for me. :biggrin_25525:

Speaking of which, I'm a touch frustrated with my last couple loads. Good miles but too much waiting time to get them or deliver them. Right now (after unloading the Pinto beans in San Antonio this morning) I'm sitting at a Pilot in Fort Worth waiting to get loaded with beer (hmmmm....that sounds like fun!) to take to CO. But I can't get it until 20:00 tonight. BUMMER!! I was really hoping to break my personal 7 day record of 5280 miles but alas, it looks like 4869 will have to do....LOL

Seriously, I'm not dissapointed at all. Dispatch has been very good to me and I'm greatful for that. Besides, this gives me a little time to play here and check out the connection between my laptop and sterio to see how it sounds. I bought a cable to hook them up the other day but haven't had the chance yet. Now I can listen to my 500 CD's (Lifetime collection of tunes) and actually hear the movies I watch (well, want to watch as I haven't done that yet either...lol).

So if all goes according to plan, after I drop this one I might be able to get another beer run out of Denver up to Helena again and get the rest of Ole Betsy's needs attended to. Maybe even get to run in some snow again. That would be cool!!

I'll head your words Chompi... Thanks! :biggrin_25514:...and shhhhh...don't tell anyone but, I still have never put chains on.....:biggrin_2556:... Guess I better :biggrin_2558: up and learn how fast....LOL

Sammycat, as I'm sure other drivers know, you might be surprised just how fast that "10" can go.....LOL Once I get a card from Sprint for my laptop, I'll be able to post more. It's just that now, I have to be at a Pilot and there are many times I'm stopped, but not there so I can't get online. My phone gets online all over the country so maybe if I file my thumbnails to a point I can type better on it.....:biggrin_2559: A large magnifying glass wouldn't hurt either....:biggrin_25526:

And once again, nobody is hijacking the thread and I truly appreciate you all keeping it up top. (Makes it easier for me to find...LOL) Let's just keep it light, fun and informative.

Wedge, Thank you SO MUCH for picking up my slack on all the companies for PCDoctor. You did a MUCH better job than I did. :biggrin_25514:

No apology needed man. Asking questions is what this thread is all about. Well, that... and my little journal of my new life as a trucker. :biggrin_25525:

I'm just sorry I couldn't really answer your question better but then, that's what's so great about the folks on this forum. Someone (wedge in this case) always will. [IMG]

no harm no foul with cpape maybe it came across wrong just was having some fun. I am happy to read you you are getting good miles. I am still on my AZ-CA run 400 a day but local and extra perks are good.

Keep up the good work, sometime when you are through AZ let me know.

Yeah I was just talking with Warp the other day. He says you guys are doing well on that run. COOL!

I will look you up for sure when I get through AZ next time. Sure would be nice to see someone I know out there. That's one thing I'll say about WS, if you're looking to see a lot of other WS trucks out there and you're running OTR, don't count on it. I think to date I've seen maybe 6 on the road...LOL

The one exception was in CO at the Anhieser Bush plant. There must of been like 15 of us there at the same time.

I've been to that Pilot there in FW, Chris. I'd say it's one of the nicest (and biggest) Pilots I've ever seen, fairly new from the looks of it. I was there during NASCAR weekend, and got a couple of pics of the haulers fueling up there before they got to the track, which is right down the road. Oh, that Miller plant, you'll see how big it is....drop trailer on one place, and pick up the loaded one about 1/2 mile away....Nice talking with you the other day. Take care and stay safe out there.

Oh, one more thing, Miller won't tell you your weight, axle or gross, so you'll need to hit that Pilot to scale. I've picked up loads there 2 times, and had to go thru the scale a couple of times to get the tandems right...as you know, beer loads are always heavy

Wouldn't it be better to ask your friend how he likes it?

Just start this thread from the beginning, lots of info on the 10 day course. Check out Cage and American Trucker's threads as well. Lots of info to read. :)
