    Hey Sweetie!!
Very nicely put about how things have been going good and bad. It does amaze me to read what you guys go thru daily and to still think most people 'see' trucks as invisible or ''in the way'' and don't realize that everything they need or want is moved by YOU! It amazes me to see 4 wheelers dart in and out of the trucks, tailgate or just act stupid (to quote you, '' You are the beer can!!''') So thank you for what you have been through, your career change and that when you became a driver it was just not a job, but you understood that it's a lifestyle and you do provide a valuable service to us all. And your family- we miss you all as much as you miss us and don't forget that!!!! xoxoxox hugs!!!

    Wedge Thanks this.

    Great recap, Chris!
Like some others, I've read as both you and ORG (remember him? lol) started school, and training for ORG but not you. Wedge is on his way.
Here's something I'd like to know: How about dietary living OTR? Cooler, APU and fridge, restaurants?
Best and please keep those insightful posts coming!

But still losing wieght. The 35's are getting looser....:biggrin_25525:

Quick hijack and a Q for Chris.

I sure was counting on all you guys posting some things...studying the handbook is sucking the life right out of me. What's going on here is more interesting!

Reading HazMat now and the classes 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 2.2 right on up to cough dot puke! It's all necessary and January seems so far off.

BTW...for Chris, ORG, Sammie, Wedge, PC Doc, (and you know who you are) the regular posters since this started, if you're slated to pass through Katy, TX, on I-10, and can let me know in advance, I'd like to meet you. I expect a sudden surge in availability during the day anytime now.

One at a time you will be my guest for lunch. Everyone knows Texas wrote the book on BBQ! I plan to ask many times the price of your lunch when I start school and need advice. Don't be shy, cause I won't.

You can have a free professional photo of you and your truck if you like. My side gig is a studio photography. (That's the express lane to poverty nowadays.)

Chris - Do you "cook" in your truck? Hot coffee, etc? How many days clothing to you keep? Winter wear? XM or satellite radio? Don't think you ever mentioned them. How do you power your laptop? I heard plugins can damage them...you?

HazMat may keep me from restocking at WM, and wonder if I'll be restricted (aiming for Schneider). I'm not all that big a restaurant guy myself.

Suppose it's back to the book for me now, huh?

    Be safe out there, ya'll!

Are you studying for your hazmat test?

If so, theres No need to read that book, all you have to do is go to www.cristcdl.com and take all the practice test over and over until you memorize them all, Every single question on my hazmat test at the DMV was on that website and even worded the same. The test is mainly common sense you don't need to know all the numbers and stuff thats in that book, thats why they require that you carry those little books in your truck! I posted a thread kind of a "How-To" get your hazmat endorsement

    here it is:

Hey Merlin, I may have to take you up on that offer. I like a good BBQ.

And definitly use that website that AT mentioned. they have 7 HAZMAT tests you can take. If you start to score 95% on all the tests, you won't have any trouble taking the test when it matters.

Yes, Sir. The Hazmat among all the rest of the tests.
I've been taking all the online tests I can find and am hitting about 95% or better across the board.
The Crist thing is now bookmarked, and I plan to hit it every day or two.

    Thanks AT

Hey Merlin, Like AT and others have said, don't sweat the Hazmat buddy. The link AT provided is good practice and there are others out there as well. But honestly (and I'm assuming most all DOT CDL manuals are basically the same), if you can answer the summary questions at the end of each section, you'll do fine. At least that's the way it was for ORG and I in PA.

That's an incredibly nice offer sir and I for one will do everything I can to meet you at some point. I'm a pretty darn good cook and LOVE to BBQ and it's been quite some since I have. So, if it's ok with you, I'd love to help with the cooking (and cleanup) as well. Perhaps I could work a 34 hour around it. Don't worry, I'll still sleep in the truck! :biggrin_2559:

Only if I can take some of you and your family as well. It's a hobby of mine I really enjoy. I have a nice camera and tripod with me at all times. I have thousands of pictures of my building and woodwork over the years

I don't as of yet simply because I don't all the gidgets and gadgets to do so. But when I was OTR for that month, we cooked a LOT of things and you can bet that's high on my list of things to get first. You'd be amazed what you can whip together with a microwave, a small George Forman grill and a Crockpot. YUM YUMMY!!

I have two weeks worth of socks, underwear and t-shirts. I have a few pairs of jeans and shorts. A couple nice shirts and slacks for those times I'll feel like going out. A pair of sneakers, summer work shoes, winter work boots and flip flops for those ummm...less than tidy shower floors we sometimes run into out here....LOL

For cooler and winter weather I have a couple long sleeve Harley shirts, insulated flannel work shirts, an insulated hoody and my Carheart winter overalls and coat. Some good gloves and of course a rain suit (my riding gear...lol)

Don't have XM yet but plan to get it. I have a 300 watt inverter that runs my laptop just fine. I'll get a 2000 when I can though as it will run everything you'll need out there. I'll also get a REAL CB when I can as the company one leaves MUCH to be desired.....:biggrin_25510:

Don't really know the answer to this but it's a good question. However, there are some Wal Marts that don't even like my non hazmat truck. What I do is pull up the Wal Mart I want to stop at on my GPS and call ahead to ask the general manger. Shopping has never been a problem but some don't like you sleeping there overnight. For the most part, as long as you stay out of the customer parking close to the store, they have no problem.

Yep. But don't make more of it than you have to Merlin. Looking back I can say I was all tied up in knots I didn't need to be in....LOL Just stay focused and consistent in your reading and you'll surprise yourself I'm sure.

When I went to take all my tests I was all kinds of worried about it. The guy at the DOT center told me I could take breaks between the tests if I wanted to. I thought I would but once I got going, I just kept on going. I finished all the test in 45 minutes and the guy told me he'd never seen that before. Trust me man, I'm no genius but it really wasn't that hard. I was surprised how it all came back rather quickly.

Well this week is working out really well. Dropped my load in GA this morning. Talked with Crissy and she set me up with a run that will get me home this weekend. I won't make Thursday night's dinner but I'll be home Friday morning. Can't wait to see my family! Gonna call them tomorrow morning and ask them to save some leftovers.....:biggrin_255:

I'm hoping my mom will make her apple and lemon meringue pies. They're the BEST!
