Well when I first went to BD the wife had some wild ideas about what takes place at rally's and such. Then she flew out to a couple including Sturgis and realized Rick (the driver of the other show truck) and I didn't have time to even notice there were girls around.
After 2 days at Sturgis trying to work the truck on my schedule she decided to stay at the company house and take care of food, laundry and cleaning for the crew (there was 20 of us). And trust me, after they got used to having her home cooked dinners each night, clean beds, fresh laundry etc. they banded together and paid her to come back every year.
My display had to be open at 08:00 which meant I had to be there no later than 7:00 to start getting bikes out and opened up. Our company house was out in the canyon 10 miles west of Sturgis so I had to hit the road by 6:45. We were open till 11:00pm-Midnight then another hour closing down and putting the bikes away. Did I mention I'm set up 5 miles east of downtown so I had to cross back through town at 1:00 in the morning which adds 1/2 hour. So finally back at the house around 1:30 or 2:00, quick shower and 4 hours of sleep then out the door at 6:45. This goes on for 12 days so yeah Jennifer Anniston could walk up naked and I probably wouldn't have noticed after the first day.
However given the chance I would go right back to the show circuit in the blink of an eye and happily wipe fingerprints from custom bikes all the while complaining about it and the horrid hours.

Never did any shows. Before I got back into OTR,.. I was hustling my little pickup hauling bikes for a few dealers from the Daytona auction.
I hauled anything and everything. If it fit and didnt blow out the tires,.. I'd roll it.
.
I went from this to this,..

People can say what they want. I paid my dues to get where I am now. Still working my tail off to to meet goals I have set.
HurstReeferOhio, whoopNride, OLDSKOOLERnWV and 3 others Thank this. -
I remember you posting on another site right after you had started hauling the bikes and cars. You've come a long ways.
Should be proud of yourself.Hurst Thanks this. -
Thank you,
My first love is old cars. I was trying to make a name for myself and get into hauling classic cars. That was my original goal. I made a few mistakes and bad choices and it didnt pan out. Its been an uphill battle to finally become debt free and financially stable. Its still a lot of work and I still have a long way to go before I can finally say I am where I want to be.
If you want it bad enough and are willing to stubbornly stick with it,.. things will eventually click and things will start going the way you want. I will admit though,.. its been a long learning process the entire time. Still learning new things and the in's and out's every day.

Nice job!
I dont know if I'll go to that extreme on mine. But I'll be very close to that when I get back off the road next Sept/Oct.
I dont have an impact gun large enough to take my wheels off yet. Will pick one up when I get back. I do plan to strip the rear half of the frame,.. just leaving the suspension and axles in place. Everything else that can unbolt will come off. After I strip it down to bare metal it will give me a chance to run some new air lines and rewire the back half of the truck. Plus I've been wanting to replace the plastic half fenders with something else for a long while now.
Not sure if I will drop my fuel tanks or not. The rust wasnt too bad up under the sleeper and cab. Just mainly from about the fuel tanks back is where it turned ugly. Under the hood and cab still look almost new. That and I dont have the tools or facility to really go that in depth with it.
I cant even really park my truck at my place yet. The ground is too soft to take it off the driveway and there is no way to turn it around with out gouging up the property. My wife would kill me. I've been trying to get the money together to repave the place and make a paved turn around area out back were I want to set up an out building/repair shop. All $$$$ that I just cant spare right now. The place where I park my truck is huge. The property owner lets me do anything I want there. Its an old concrete plant. Its just a hassle dragging all my tools and compressor out there all the time.
I'll get it done right. What I did now is just temporary to get me through the summer months. I'll probably take a few weeks off in Oct to focus on getting the truck ready for the winter season.

Used Chasis Saver on my 55 Chevy truck frame, set outside for 3 yrs and still looked good, not in salt and rain neither though.
Brush real good and paint.BoxCarKidd Thanks this. -
Ospho. You can get it at NAPA. Brush on rinse off. Knock of flaking rust. And reapply. Works as a neutralizer and primer. You can use spray paint over it. I use John Deere gloss black implement paint. You can brush it or spray it. I use a cheap primer gun and spray it. Tough as nails.
