Where's it leaking from on the housing?
Sometimes it can be patched with a welded plate if its just one little area that's corroded through. If the whole housing is rough you might be better off with a housing swap. They're not overly expensive from a wreckers. I paid around $1,200 for a complete used drive axle with suspension. A housing alone would probably be less.Last edited: Jul 8, 2018

Top right hand side near out put shaft. When looking at it from the rear.
Oxbow Thanks this. -
If its accessible, use a needle scaler on it to get all the crust off. Then a wire wheel on a grinder.
When spotless spooge lots JB weld on the area. That will be your easiest and cheapest way to fix it.
Proper and guaranteed way is to replace housing with non crusty version .Oxbow, Steve62, Goodysnap and 1 other person Thank this. -
I have heard that JB Weld works but have not tried it personally so I can't vouch for how well it works.

Well I've used it many times and never had a failure.
The thing is this guy has nothing to loose by not using it.
Ultimately the only sure and proper way of fixing it is housing replacement like A model said.BoxCarKidd, Oxbow and Dave_in_AZ Thank this. -
My drivetrain specialist says it normal for it to leak on that particular spot after a few years. I have 402’s and it leaks there so I asked when he was rebuilding my transmission. He told me that’s the thinnest part of the housing. And if you take apart to re gasket, your gonna run into other issues. He recommended to run it until it comes to rebuilding.

My three favorite remedies listed almost in order LMFAO.
1) Used parts.
2) JBWeld
3) Use it, as long as DOT don't get you, until it's time for a refit or re truck.Steve62 and Diesel Dave Thank this. -
