I don't know of any place that would take you with a half ton. Plus you would work that 302 to death....

    Roadmedic Thanks this.

Yeah, maybe. To put it in perspective, it's an old truck but the parts are so cheap it's ridiculous. I bought the whole truck for $250 and I just found another complete parts truck with everything but the title for $150. I could swap the engine by myself in 2 days if I had to.

Now that I look, a guy in the area has a crate motor with 30k miles on it for $400. I wonder how much of the truck that I'd have to replace for it to be considered less than 5 years old.

Im curious to hear your opinions of the newer Ford and GMC trucks, Im looking at 1 ton dually's and there is a significant difference in price between the GMC and the Ford, both new and used.

Any information on the engine and tranny's would be appreciated.

For those doing this what type of fuel milage are you getting when you pull a 5th wheel trailer.

Would not touch any of them.

In fact, I am not sure what I will do if I have to replace my truck.

I have friends who have these vehicles and the cost to operate them is high and most have went to great lengths to remove all of the emissions at huge expense to even get a decent mileage.

I have a 4x4 2002 Ford 1 ton with a 7.3 liter. Not a dually. For hitches I have a pintle, goose neck ball and equalizer hitch. I also have a bumper pull 25 ft. dove tail trailer. I'd like to start rv transport or hot shot work. I've got a class A CDL, but don't really know how to get my foot in the door. Any and all help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I'm wondering if I bought a dually, a 3 car wedge and a flatbed, could I find enough work hauling from car/equipment auctions and moving cars up and down the east coast as well as taking flatbed loads could I survive as an Independent?

pocket $500wk after expenses and not run myself to death. Not alot of bills to cover at home just expenses to operate and basics. Something I can be home some most weeks and take a week off 3-4 times a year and not loose my ###.. I busted my back in 06 and need to have some flexability. Worker's Comp Settlement paid most of my bills, house etc. Now I need to find something I can do.
