Pretty sure you supply the insurance, but not positive. And the fuel.

Ryder has a weekly rate right on their website. I think a dbl axle tractor without a sleeper is about 400 a week with .08 a mile after the first 500 a week. Apparently they will even toss in a dry van, if I'm reading it right.

I just need it for a day. One nearly full van of plastic totes, 150 miles. It seems I can rent the truck, buy the fuel, and drive it myself for less than 30% of the best rate anyone will quote.

The Ryder shop was closed & the 800 number rang over to an automated reservation system. I'll call them in the morning to see about the insurance and other crud. Let yu know what I find.

Hell, 400 a week and .08 a mile really is not bad.

I have no idea. If they seem willing to answer questions when I call in the morning I'll ask. I rented a truck from them about 10 years ago, perhaps more, for a few days. Things were different then, at least different enough that the price was much higher. At the time I needed something to spot trailers around town for a few weeks & it was way more than the daily rate they have now, about double the weekly rate the have now I think. I really just don't remember if the insurance was included.

I'll ask what I can, the yard isn't that far away maybe I'll just run over there tomorrow.

Still haven't actually gotten a human on the phone over there at Ryder. But viewing the reservation app page in IE I can now see this little footnote blow in red. So it seems they will sell you insurance, but it is not provided with the truck.

Just to close this out. A buddy network O/O said he would do the run for 285.00. No need to rent the truck now. Less hassle that way.

So it does appear you need to either have insurance or you may get it through them... probably better off with your own.

Its a good rate, but you have to have everything but the truck.

This is probably a crazy question but is there any good scenerio renting a truck to run with your own authority? I haven't done the math but i'm sure you'd have to get very good $ per mi because once your over the 500 "free" mi your payin a hefty fee. Maybe they would work out an agreement for long haul?? I have seen this asked somewhare before but never did get a solid answer.
