Never worked for them, but their maintenance program is beyond terrible. You might as well save your ink writing the trucks up.

McLane here locally is similar along with a few other companies who literally, NEVER take down their "hiring" ad's. Regardless of the work involved, there's a reason why come companies are constantly hiring. I tend to steer clear of any company that never takes down a ad for employment. Getting on with the companies that hardly hire is a whole different ball game, you almost have to get lucky and land somewhere in the middle, which isn't that easy anymore.Trucking in Tennessee, Lepton1 and buddyd157 Thank this.

Yep, unions are needed in trucking.
I just got a union job driving in the construction industry. It’s great. Ot after 8 hours, time and a half Saturday and double time Sunday with free healthcare. I’ll never drive for a non union company again, my pay checks literally doubled with the help of not paying for insurance and ot after 8. No more working 12 hours one day to get called off the next to screw you out of your overtime.
These companies are making crazy money and screwing their drivers every way they can. I’ve only been driving two years but I reached my limit already. Working 60 hours a week and making less money than the dispatcher is for the birds.tlalokay, TheyCallMeDave, Trucking in Tennessee and 1 other person Thank this. -
Man, I'd love to find something like that in my area, but the chances are one in a million around here to land a gig of that status.Fold_Moiler Thanks this.

Some companies are baiting you. They keep new equipment and some drivers are so thrilled they ignore how little they are making. The company wins with lower salaries and benefits, and depreciated the trucks.

The Feds controlled the industry through their ICC. For a trucking company to operate it had to submit a proposal to the ICC indicating which freight, where, how often, etc it would transport. The ICC EVENTUALLY would make a decision and allow it or tell you there were already sufficient transportation over that route, NO.
Essentially you couldn't run a trucking business until you convinced the Feds there was enough business to justify your entry. The trucking companies already in business made a killing. The companies wanting their freight moved, paid a fortune. The consumers got to pay the bills. You can't run an economy that way, just ask the East Germans and the Soviets.
With a severely restricted market unions could enforce certain rules and wages. They could also shoot people that disagreed.Lepton1 Thanks this.
