Tell them not to call and why. Orientation starts mondays and finishes wednesday. They furnish transportation, lunch and a hotel. Get all your questions ready before you call. There are things their insurance doesn't cover. Find out if that is a conflict before you waste your time going. Wed they hand you 300.00 of your sign on bonus..put you in your truck and you are dispatched. You won't make 1000.00 that week just miles. You will be given another load that will get you home on the weekend for your 36 hrs off. They will need to know physical address where you will park the trk when you are home. (they don't accept trk st0ps). They will send you to their doctor for your dot physical at their expense. ASK QUESTIONS before you go. Good Luck and see you around maybe.

I have a good friend who worked for Sharkey for two years. He only left to become an O/O, and has repeatedly stated that he wished he'd never left.

He made good money with Sharkey and ran on just about all of their dispatch boards. He did the $1000 guarantee, Old El Paso, and reefer.

He and I talk on the phone a lot. He was happiest on the OEP account. He didn't run legal, either, but he did make good money there. He routinely brought home (after taxes) more than $900. Many times he brought home over $1000. He was home every weekend.

He did often complain about the rough ride of the Macks and the lack of power that Sharkey specs their trucks with. He also talked about how the jakes didn't do much to slow him down on a steep grade.

Sharkey won't make you run illegal, just like any reputable company. But if you know how to log creatively, they're pretty liberal on it.

my husband works for them and he has been there about 5 months. He went there from being with Werner for a year and a half. Sharkeys is a much better company! They will get you home every week unless you dont want to be. Thy are strict on hiring though. Some people my husband went to orientation with were sent back home. He doesnt drive illegally and he makes about $650 a week after taxes, which is about $150-$200 more a week than with Werner and hes home more. They also pay health insurance.

What were some of the reasons for drivers being sent home from orientation? My recruiter says my app looks great, so do they actually check or just blow smoke to get u there? Any help would be appreciated...

Questions for current Sharkey drivers. I know I could call the 800 number, but I trust this forum more than a recruiter.

    1. Rider / pet policy?
    2. Invertors, microwaves, and fridges allowed?
    3. Idle policy?
    4. How strict on Fuel economy?
    5. How adaptable are they to a driver's personal driving style?
(e.g.- day vs. night driving, running all available h.o.s. not on guaranteed 1000 plan, etc.)
    6. Do you get to choose dry van, reefer, or flatbed division?
    7. Will they threaten to fire you for refusing to drive unsafe (tired, mechanical) or illegal?
    8. One or two bunk sleepers? Cab heaters? Other creature comforts?

    Thanks in advance

I worked for them for a few months. I left because of getting hired by kEEN. I was on the flatbed side, cleared around 800-900 a week. home on weekends. Just usual stuff.

Maybe not in & of itself......but if you factor in free Health Insurance for the entire family....it's not bad for a 5 day week (home on weekends).

    Health/Dental/Vision/Life/Short Term Disability/etc....all costs money.
Sure; it would be nice to clear $1,200.00 a week with free benefits---but it ain't gonna happen.
What would be YOUR ideal package Prime Rib? And how close to that goal are you right now?

I am a driver for Sharkey and I stumbled on this post so I thought I would throw in my two cents. I've noticed that, out of the 600 drivers that work here, no one has posted anything. Must be because we are too busy working, spending time with our families, and spending all the money were making. LOL I've worked for Sharkey Transportation Inc for over 12 years. Most of the drivers around here have also worked here for just as long. The best way to hear about any job is to talk to the drivers that still currently work here. Not the guys who are negative nancys because they got fired for something or the guys who quit and Sharkey wont take them back. LOL Yea right, you should listen to those guys because they've got it all figured out! LMBO!!
    Look here are the facts:

    1. Insurance is Free for me and my whole family. I can't tell you how much money that saves me. Especially with 6 kids.

    2. I get to run how I want. I'm currently running Dedicated GM. (General Mills) I get home about twice during the week and off weekends. My miles are the same every week 2862. I can set my pay check to that. My gross is 1058.94 every week. Except for the winter, I don't hit my fuel bonus then. Then it drops down to 1001.70.

    3. There is NO BULL ####! I come to work, do my job, and go home. I don't need my dispatcher to hold my hand or be my friend.

    4. I really love my Compliance Bonus. As long as I don't get any log book violations, I get a $800 bonus every three months. I always hit that bonus to total $3400 for the year.

Those are the facts and I really don't give a #### about what any of you people say on here. Don't come to work here, I don't care!! Just more miles for me and my family.
