They are pretty good people at S&S. I ve had a few ups and downs so far, but I shake it off and keep on going. But one thing I can say is once they learn how you run, and you know how to manage your E logs, you can do great here.
Not too many companies I know of that if you walk into dispatch, and get to pick from a list of available loads to run. There may be times that there are garbage runs, meaning that they either have short miles, and too much time on them, or places others do not want to go. But in the end, I still take them, and usually get a decent load afterwards.
Another good key about S&S, lets say that you re in an area with a non-profitable freight, and there s a better paying load the next day, they would rather you sit, and pay you layover pay than to haul that non profitable load, which makes sense to me.CalculatedRisk, LDYTRUCKER, Backatit and 1 other person Thank this. -

I am currently sitting for breakdown. I was going to get my mud flap changed when I noticed a very serious problem with the trailer that the last driver did not report. I will more than likely have to sit until mid week until it is all fixed.bigkev1115, Vic Firth, Lonesome and 1 other person Thank this. -

The trailer didnt take all that long to fix. Thanks to the Clearwater Travel Center shop, I will finally be able to start my trip tomorrow!
It is so important as a driver to check your equipment. If you screw up, please report it. The problem I stumbled across has only been seen by my shop manager 2-3 times in his life, but it could have caused my tandems to slide off the back of my trailer if I had to brake hard enough. The driver that did the damage knew they did it because they hid the tandem stop bar that was snapped off the subframe up behind the mud flap mount. The only reason I found it was because the stop bar bounced up on my 5 mile trip to park and get the mud flap replaced. One side laid high enough that I could see it over the mud flap mount. After even more careful inspection, there was much more damage to the suspension and trailer, that would have easily been overlooked if you had not seen anything like it before.
As a driver with only 6 months of experience, I take great pride in taking care of the equipment. I learn something new every day. I am SO glad I stopped at the nearest truck shop to fix a mud flap, otherwise this could have had potential disastrous consequences. They are using my pictures for the next company safety meeting.
So if any new drivers out there read this thread, please do not let fear of getting let go stand in the way of reporting any mistakes you make. It will be 100x worse if you hide it and get caught. You risk the safety of everyone on the road as well as your own coworkers. Do NOT have that on your conscience!CalculatedRisk, Vic Firth, Lonesome and 4 others Thank this.
