This is what's wrong with this industry...why even have a training program?JoeyJunk, Vic Firth and bigkev1115 Thank this.

We re in the process of starting to train people. That s going to be interesting when winter hits again, and some of these new drivers have never dealt with an Upper Midwest winter. Get ready to see some our trucks with missing and mismatched fairings lolJoeyJunk and drvrtech77 Thank this.

I remember the first time I took a load to the UP....wow was it cold!!JoeyJunk and bigkev1115 Thank this.

I was in Grand Forks when it was -50 a few months ago. That was the worst day of my life lol

Womp womp. Lol. I misjudged the room I had to turn around at a receiver, and my fairing paid the price for my stupidity. If I had 2 more inches of room, it would have been fine. Guarantee that I learned my lesson wearing that badge of shame on my truck for a few months before they fixed it. I still get mad at myself over that one. I called them up right when it happened and told them I'm an idiot, please dont fire me.
They dont let males and females train together, which is understandable considering it takes one person to ruin it for everyone else. Being down to one female trainer, I'd like to give it a shot when I'm ready and they are ready. We aren't rushing into anything.
I was also up there during that polar vortex. I asked them to take a 34 so I could experience it. Boy, did I. Got a good harsh lesson about how the trucks handle that type of weather. Happy to say I never broke down, but I did stop to offer support to others that did.Vic Firth, Lonesome, Bumper and 1 other person Thank this. -
I don t think S&S would fire you over that. I think they will take $600 from your bonus according to the driver handbook. I think the only way they would fire you, is if you had a major preventable. I came close to a jack knife, but thankfully my truck stopped in a 90 degree angle. I backed up a little and straightened out and drove about 500 feet to the MN welcome center and called it a day.
And besides they really like you at the yard -
Smart move Kev. The Trucking Gods were telling you it was time to stop.bigkev1115 Thanks this.

Still in Tacoma since load won t pick up until 11am tomorrow going back to Grand Forks for Friday. I m glad I have 4 days to get it there due to this winter storm moving in. I will probably go out and about later since I m 2 hours behind

Tuesday rolled around and I went to pick up my backhaul to Grand Forks.I got a call from Brian saying my new truck is ready. So, I got there at 1030 and left at 1200. Could ve been gone sooner, but no one told me to pre cool my reefer. Thankfully it dropped to minus 10 in less than 30 minutes.
I left at hauled tail over the passes in my 8,000 lbs and got to just outside Missoula. I took my break, and hauled tail again over Homestake, and Bozeman passes. I wound up making it to Sidney, MT where I fueled, showered and took my 10. I ran US 2 back to Grand Forks to avoid Wesley.
I got to my delivery, and was unloaded in 10 minutes, came back to yard to get ready to swap out trucks, but it was nowhere near ready. So I checked in, and got a 1700 mile run to NY for Monday that picks up tomorrow. I went and did laundry, and as soon as I got done drying my clothes, here comes Winter Storm Wesley. Heavy snow and blowing wind. Now I 29 is now shut down from Canada all the way past Sioux Falls. And I 94 is closed from Jamestown, ND into MN for a good ways
This will be the 2nd winter storm in a row that I m stuck in Grand Forks. I got stuck when Ulmer hit for 38 hours.
I m kind of glad the new truck wasn t ready. I don t think I want to risk messing up a new truckLDYTRUCKER Thanks this.
