Although I have never tried it, one way to quickly break in boots is to put them on and stand in water high enough to overflow and completely soak them (before applying the first grease). Then "walk them dry". Grease them up after you walk them dry.

Loggers, climbers, and hikers in the PNW have all told me about this method, but I never had the courage to make the leap. They say doing a wet break in can reduce the time to a few days at most.

Loggers on the Olympic Peninsula (with over 200 inches of rain per year) have two pair of boots. One to wear today and another in the drying rack to wear tomorrow. My brother was a foreman of a choking crew back in the '70's. He has stories to tell...

i would never suggest this to anyone. ive been forced to wear wet boots like that until dry and no good comes from it. if the boot isn’t comfortable from day 1 it never will be. id guess ive owned close to 100 pairs of boots, if not more. i currently have 6 pairs and i don’t even use them like that anymore. i always kept extra pairs in the truck and hotel room. i was in the drilling industry for 11 years prior to driving and you could not pay me enough to let me get water inside of them for a day.

I take it you’ve never worn Chippewa super loggers? They’re ungodly stiff and hard to wear for the first week or so. After that it’s a total different story

if they are that bad i would never have bought them. after trying them on they’d have been placed squarely back in the box and back to the rack.
