Sorry for the miscommunication. I am gonna be hauling sand boxes for an owner operator who is leased onto another company(which isn't Sandbox proper) that said they were gonna take care of my certs when I got here. Starting tomorrow.
I don't understand the hierarchy yet (who's working under who) but the people I will be working with said they would take care of that with me this week.

With boxes you won't be out of the truck long, but you will need all the aforementioned items, Amazon for FR pants and shirts, Rasco has good shirts and prices, I like the button down. Wrangler FR jeans. FRs are expensive if you buy in most store's. Or you can get FR coveralls and slip them on at the well.
Resperators are for silica not H2s.
H2s isn't as scary as it's made out to be, and you won't be on the well long anyway, you might wait a while to drop your box, however that wait is not typically on the well.
As far as the 1099, the IRS is going to consider you an employee, but your going to file as self-employed truck driver which is fine except you won't have any truck expenses to deduct. This will be a red flag for the IRS.
I'm not sure why drivers keep taking 1099 jobs, between SS and Medicare cost you an additional 7.65% more than taking a W2 job. And technically non of your deductions are on the up and up.
ConocoPhillips, Marathon and BHP are probably the strictest companies when it comes to safety in my part of South Texas.
As an aside, get a coffee cup that you can close, the lease roads are more than happy to help you get more on the floor than your mouth.

I'm back!!
Been super busy with orientations, classes, getting my truck in order, making friends and haven't had my computer out.
Thanks for all the help, got all my gear and waiting on my first load. Gonna be hauling for Sandbox proper, but still driving for an O/O who is leased onto another company so not a Sandbox employee. My O/O is super cool so far, feel like I have good support and that makes ALL the difference. Waiting in San Antonio now.
I actually got to haul a load from San Antonio to Jal, NM this weekend. Load paid great both ways. Won't be doing that anymore although I really enjoyed it. West Texas and SW NM was pretty wild. Amazing really if you aren't used to the oil fields.
Got a 2007 Volvo with over a million miles but it seems to be a reasonably good tool for the job. It's definitely comfortable now that I have it cleaned out and put in fresh carpet (20 bucks at Walmart). Got a big fridge, TV, APU, etc.

One thing with the H2S/gas monitor is it should be bump tested regularly. This is to verify it is actually functioning correctly.

H2S is real but I'm at very low risk actually. Usually in the truck and working on the frac end which is when then stuff is going down, not coming up. Lots of redundant safety engineered into the process as well.Oldironfan Thanks this.
