When I went to Sage in Henderson CO, I thought it was a good course. They did teach me enough to get my CDL, and some of the instructors were certified third-party DMV testers. Of course, this respondant is correct - you're no where near being a "truck driver" when you graduate. You're a just another wannabe with a license...

Some companies only require that you stay one year after completing training. Make sure you understand the tuition repayment terms BEFORE you sign up with a company to get your CDL.

I started out laying down around $4,ooo at one of those 4wk. long CDL schools, & within the first 2hrs. of class, I knew I'd made a mistake. All the instructor talked about was the urgent need to hurry & get a physical done & memorize an inch thick book of CDL practice tests, so we could out smart the DMV.

There wasn't a word of instruction about how to be a knowledgeable & safe driver. (You can NOT learn the basics of responsible/safe truck driving in a 4wk. course. There is just SO MUCH to learn in this profession. After 5 solid years out on the road now with my CDL, I still consider myself wet behind the ears.)

Luckily, I was able to get out of this quicky school with a full refund of my money & to my good fortune I stumbled upon a FREE state run/funded CDL training program! ( ***This is my key advice to wanna be truckers, first seek out state sponsored truck driving programs.)

The school I went to was a VERY GOOD nine month course in El Cajon, Ca. It was one of many courses in the Regional Occupational Program, R.O.P. Oh, and did I say it was FREE. All of the instructors here were grizzled veteran truck drivers who stressed knowledge & safety 1st! Passing the driving & written exams were important to them, but to most of the teachers there, it was far more important to them that the students leave with a SOLID foundation of truck driving skills. One of my instructors here told me, where you really learn how to be a truck driver is on your first job. I have found this to be very true, but a first job goes a hell of a lot better when you have good training to source from.

Take Care All, and Good Luck to you Beginners :)
