I applied online at Saia June 16. June 23 they called saying that my application has been seen and it is valid for 60 days. From what I understand, the Springfield terminal will contact me...if they're interested.

I talked to a Dayton linehaul driver (nice guy, works out of the Strafford terminal) and like I've read here and elsewhere, he's very happy to be working there. I drove by the Dayton terminal...very nice. I applied online yesterday. I had some questions about the application so I called Dayton and talked to a nice lady at human resources. I mentioned that I was interested in the dock to driver program and she said to make sure and tell them (if I was to call the Strafford terminal) that I was interested in the program.

I see that Estes still has 2 part-time dock worker positions available online. I think I'll wait and see if I hear from either Saia or Dayton, and go from there. I really hope Dayton calls...I really think I'd like to work there.

@Bob Dobalina , any idea how long I should wait before calling the terminal to see if they have seen my application?

Sounds like you went through their dock to driver program. Would you mind sharing a little bit about how the process went? As in how long you were on the dock before you applied (however they do it) for the program? And was the program at your terminal or did you have to go to another terminal? Things like that.

That's great man! Keep us posted. Everybody I've ever encountered at Dayton is super nice. It sounds like you got some really good leads I wouldn't be surprised if you heard back from someone this week even.

I would love to hear from them tomorrow...lol! But I'll be patient and wait a few days. I want to find the balance of showing them that I'm really interested in working for them...and not being a pain in the hind quarters. :)

Haha there ya go. Play a little hard to get. You know another thing might be if you have your heart set on Dayton and if Saia calls you back first, it might be worth making a call to Dayton and telling them you'd like to work for them but you do have another job offer but they were your first choice and all that. They might appreciate that and give your application a lil scooch along. I've done it before to much success but idk. We'll hafta see what our Dayton guru @Bob Dobalina thinks of that. It'd be great if they said "oh no we're interested lets get you in here!" But not so great if they said "ok good you found another job" and filed your app thru the shedder. Might be a fine line ya know? But I'm sure they know your putting your feelers out elsewhere, and if you let em know they're your first pick (which I agree with you they should be) they might scramble on it. Worth a shot.

Ok so I started wa back 2010, on the dock, and lasted about a week until i hit the yard, I had 4 years of yard experience form Viking ( FedEx) and I hostled for about 5 years, that's when i caught wind of them rebooting the "driver school". I talked to the TM and after he sent my request to safety and they did their check (DMV) I was told to go get my permit, and endorsements (all -passenger, out of my pocket) then they sent me (paid) for a physical and drug test, few weeks later I attended the class, which was at my terminal luckily. A two week crash course, basically, But after that I did 2 months behind the wheel training, with the P&D guys, doing the work, when I felt ready I scheduled my DMV test.

Thanks for that info. I'm just wanting to see how the different dock to driver programs work. What I'm learning is that nothing is written in stone as to how the programs are run...but I might have that wrong too. I'm always learning and I'll be learning till the day I pass on.

3 days, a week at most. They can actually see it right away, but that'll give them time to review it. Then they should email you some follow-up stuff to do. That'll get the process rolling.
