It's nice working day shift, but it's also not nice. Traffic in Seattle is like some of the worst in the country and I waste a good portion of my day dealing with it. And with a 9am start time that usually turns into me pulling out of the parking lot at 7:30 to go home. I never have any time during the week to handle anything during normal business hours. Working nights might be alright if the money is there.

They switch it up on me at Reddaway. On Friday I did a turn on my favorite highway during the day and my 3.75 hour drive north turned into 6 hours! Lousy holiday traffic! Luckily I got back home on time. Thank God for paper logs too.

i actually prefer working nights, did it for years since i was 18, plus my gf works 11-7am so it kind of benefits us. I Know what you mean about the traffic... I used to peddle around NYC

I usually work nights and I love it. No better time for driving a truck. In fact I get pissed when the sun starts coming up when I'm still driving. I don't like it when they throw a day shift on me. It messes me all up. That's cool that your girl works the night shift too. Sounds like you have a good thing going on. Nice to be able to see your gf in this business. If you ever get married you'll be wishing one of you were working days! I remember when I first started out trucking I hated being gone cause I just wanted to get drunk and hang with my girl friend. Now I just want to be gone.

she only chose it because she goes to class 8-12, so its easier to wrk 11-7, or she woud have to do the 3-11 shift.
I know, normally my first half on a sunday morning is ok, little bit of traffic but once around noon it gets horrible. especially when we go to trenton, the route they have us take back is 30 miles on Rt-1. at the right time its actually faster than the NJTP, but during the day you got all the idiots out there, and people of jersey do not like to obey driving laws. For some reason they have us start 7am on sundays and then normally wont call back until 8pm the next night, drives me nuts, wish they would just make us come in at 7pm, but I hear its because of the trains come in early sunday. normally on sundays I just run the rail yards. Yesterday I pretty much ran every jersey terminal except 2. -
ACH, my hat is off to you guys back east. I don't mind running in and out of there but I couldn't run back there all day long. I know I complain about the I-5 but I'll take it any day over the east coast! I used to drive from Cali to Chicago to Detroit then over to Edison, NJ. Hated it!
I hadn't run OTR for a while, well back east anyway since 2003. When I did the FedEx Ground job this last winter, I was surprised to see how much more traffic there was back east. Going north on the 81 from Tennessee to Harrisburg was a mutha! I couldn't believe how much traffic there was. Another place that got really bad was Texas. We would run a loop to Houston, San Antonio, Austin then Dallas. Crazy traffic there now. I always liked being a road driver because I never saw anyone out on the highway or very little. Now there is traffic everywhere I go all the time! Never was this much traffic on the I-5 either. Now it's always packed, especially with trucks. Really no fun in trucking for me anymore, now it's just a job. -
dont remind me about the traffic LOL. I know I cant understand for a country that has NO JOBS, no money, no one working does have an awful lot of morning and afternoon rush hour traffic... hmmmm.... ITs the worst in CT, and in Central Jersey. in MA, NH, VT, ME I never had a problem. I know what you mean about 81, as soon as it merges with 78 going south the traffic is crazy, going back north once it splits its better. If you go upstate NY past lake george you wont see cars for miles.
Although on the NY thru way and the MA turnpike it does put me to shame when my truck cant take a hill and you get a guy in turnpike doubles flying past you like your standing still... -
Hahaha, I had the exact same thought about people not having a job and yet there is more traffic everywhere! I know about CT. I had to go up the coast somewhere over there once. It was during a week day too. It was pretty rough most of the way up there from NY.

on i95 from exits 2-24 are usually backed up, on i84 its backed up at all major cities

ACH, like I said, my hat is off to you guys. Not just the traffic but the weather too.
