Ive only worked one salaried job and that was way back in the 70s(driving a cement mixer) but at that time it simply meant that if the employer didnt have anything for you to do, you would still be paid the same salary. If he had work for you to do and you didnt do it, he could deduct from that salary.

It worked well for me because when it rained, you couldnt pour cement so on the days it rained all I had to do was go to the shop for 2 hours and sit there. If the rain didnt stop, or the jobsite was too muddy to get a truck in, they would send me back home but Id still get my regular salary. If I didnt show up for the 2 hours, they would deduct a days pay from my salary.

By the same token, if they needed me to work overtime (Which was very seldom) I still wouldnt get anymore than my regular salary.

Sounds like 1) You can't read and 2) You're quick to jump to assumptions, probably because you're the typical grumpy old guy who thinks all young truckers are scum (I know, I'm assuming here myself). You don't know my story, what gives you the right to assume? First off. I'm not a greedy employee. Second off, my boss is okay, he has his good and bad sides just like everyone. He is not the strongest communicator, which is why I made this post in the first place. Third, I did NOT ASK and I do NOT EXPECT to be paid for not working. The problem is, he TOLD me my pay would not be affected. He told me that. I did not ask for that. I said, plain as day at the end of my post, I would have not taken the days off had he said I wouldn't be getting paid.

You sir, need to read more clearly and learn my side of the story before jumping to conclusions and calling me greedy and such.

    Have a nice day.

Read the message above your quote. I ABSOLUTELY DO NOT EXPECT PAY FOR NOT WORKING! I was TOLD BY THE BOSS HIMSELF that my salary would NOT be affected.

Btw, I did thank him a thousand times. By mouth and over texting. Because my pay never got deducted before. I'm simply just going by what he said. Now something changes and I wasn't made aware of it. That's my whole point to my post, because I don't really understand what's going on because I've never had this problem before. So thank you for your not so kind words, but you, like the fella above, need to read and learn what's actually happening before assuming.

Do you by chance work for one of those laughable milk hauling outfits like Shaendorf? No thanks, I'll be keeping myself far far away from those kinds of joke trucking outfits. I talked with a milk driver who tried very hard to get me to leave my current job to be his "partner" and I laughed in his face. Sorry, I'm not a dog. Their expectations for truck drivers is a down right joke and laughable. I don't give a crap how much they make.

Thank you for actually answering my question. That's what I was unsure of. I'm no payroll expert by any means! Lol

I agree. Thank you. That is the point of salary. And I thought I was on understanding terms about it with my boss but it seems to be more of a headache now than anything.

I'm definitely finding that out the hard way.. Working for a small company has some benefits but it seems to be biting me in the ### little by little. I mean, other than not being able to give me a straight answer about how I'm paid and taking forever to pay me my extra pay if I work weekends, the job ain't that bad, but some days it does seem as if I'm expected to run like the "outlaw" days which sometimes is okay, other times it's just annoying.

That's exactly how I feel. Should I tell him that?

Thank you. That's all I needed to know.

So do I! That would be awesome haha.

Which I am fine with! I just wasn't made aware of it. In fact, like I said, I was told my salary wouldn't be affected by the boss himself. I mean, that is the definition of salary.. And it's not like I'm taking days off to sit at home and play with myself. There are reasons behind them. I've been there over two months, btw.

Also, not sure if I answered this or not. But I think I read that someone was asking about minimum requirements to make my salary. I have none. I ask him. He simply said, "just do what I ask you to do". I have no minimum hour or mileage requirements I have to meet to make my salary.

One thing you haven't said is, who does the payroll. The boss can tell you anything, but if he doesn't tell the payroll department, they would deduct for the days missed. Just a mis-communication can cause that kind of problem.

I get paid on salary. I get x amount for each day that I work, and that's m-f. I get weekends off. I make the same amount each day no matter how long it takes. If I only have 2 drops on a given day that takes me 4 hours, I get paid the same amount as I do on a day that has 6 drops that takes 10 hours.

Now if I choose to take a workday off (that is, a weekday), I do not get paid for that day unless I use a vacation day. My pay stub will not show a deduction if I miss a day, it will just show a lower gross amount.

Most salary jobs have minimum requirements as u said. An office workers will have a set amount of work to do and can do it as they please. Take off a couple hours early some days...stay late others.

Sounds like u have a pretty chill boss and u have to understand y he docked ur pay.

I'm definitely thinking there is a lack of communication going on somewhere, but I am pretty sure it was just my boss that didn't correct what he said about me not getting my pay docked for taking scheduled days off.

Thank you. That's exactly what I needed to hear. It makes sense now. I was just under the assumption that deductions had to be shown on the pay stub. Or that I would at least be notified that my salary would be taking a hit.

Right, but literally my requirement is just, "Do what I ask you to do, please". lol. And yeah he is pretty chill. Just not a great communicator.

    No sir.
