See now that's a lot of work just to figure out my career path in life. It's easier if I do nothing except start another thread and you just tell me which company I should go with. Plus, after I washout on the 3rd day of training I can blame you for telling me to join a company with horrible/mean/unfair/lazy trainers. Then we can start the process all over again!

A perfect example of the lazy mentality. I'll see you in the truck wash bay. Don't forget the windows please.

I think what all the new drivers want to know is the following:

    1. Who is not going to exploit new inexperienced drivers?
    2. Who is going to pay a fair wage and what should that wage be?
    3. Do we need to know someone to get the "good" company job or do we need to "grind" through the crap company to get a good job?
    4. What is the difference in divisions and how do I know which is best (i.e. pay, workload, hazards, drive time, etc.)?
    5. If you had to do it all over again knowing what you as a experienced driver now. What would you do to make the best money and live the best life possible for you and your family?

That is what we are all trying to find out. Would you not ask the most knowledgeable person about something you will be spending hours, days, weeks, months and possibly years doing? I know that maybe I over think things, however I believe research now saves heartache later. Or as I learned at BUD/S "The more you sweat in peace, the less you bleed in war."

    Thank you for your time.

    Gunner710 ....

    The upsetting thing about this is like my grandpa always use to say to me about finding the right girl;
"If it comes easy it will go easy" and then told me to apply it to everything else.... We understand ure confusion in how is the best way ... But maybe there is no best way... I went with a mega and many guys on here will tell u that's a mistake. But now I've moved on from that nightmare and am happy where I'm at now. You have got to decide for urself what's the best way FOR YOU.

    c64basic and Gunner710 Thank this.

I agree. You see you answered a question. You went to a mega which was a nightmare and then moved on. What would you have done differently?

You see I am a researcher. I look at things for months before making a move. Some people do not ask logical or thoughtful questions and I can understand the frustration. However, I do see a lot of legitimate questions form newbies and wannabe truckers. It is scary to jump to a new profession. Especially, if you have no clue about the business. Some truckers have truckers in their family and grew up around the business. I grew up around the military so I knew way more than someone off the street when I went to the recruiter. I did not get BS'ed at contract time, most people do. That I believe is what most of us are trying to accomplish.

I lost my job due to a contract dispute. I was right and I got paid because they did not obey the contract. I knew from dealing with the military that a contract is the end all be all. What is the end all be all in trucking? How can you get screwed? How do you cover your ### so you do not get screwed?

You are all mentors on this forum. We are asking because you are like the Old Chief in the Navy or Gunny in the Corps. You are the ones who know what we will face. Sure, it may get tiresome to repeat the answers but, it could keep you safe because someone finds out before they are on the road that this is not for them as well as keeps the industry at a higher standard. Do you really want drug addicted slackers driving trucks and representing the trucking world? In my opinion this is the first line of defense for keeping out the undesirables and idiots. Answer their stupid and inane questions now, so you do not have to answer for them on the road. Thats just my two cents.

    Gunner710...

What frustrates us is that the information is already on here ... I for one read a billion of these threads before even posting in them, let alone starting a thread. My first thread was on my experience in C1 because I saw that there was a lack in that department; but there isn't a lack of threads on 'what should I do' ...

You have made some very good questions and I can probably answer only a few, so the best thing in your case would be to start a thread ... But don't put "tell me what to do guys" in the topic ... You seem to have a good head on ure shoulders so my suggestion is to copy and paste the best things out of ure last few posts and make a list of goals you have... What do you want out of trucking? ... Money, power, fame, adventure, lot lizards? ... Then puts that in the topic ... For example "I want to get into trucking cause I want to hook up with the cutest lot lizards. Any advice?"

My gripe is with the posts that have a subject line like "Please help" or "Question" or "Which one?" etc. At least take the time to give a new thread a descriptive subject line.
