I was talking to a friend that casually mentioned he had to sign an NDA to haul for a company pulling Sandbox loads. Is this something that's common for them or is it a CEO of a home office? He sent me the NDA and there's nothing in there about a non-compete which is what I thought they would use it for

Does nd a. Mean non disclosure agreement if so it means don't tell anyone about what well or company your hauling sand for , back when I worked on drilling crews the term was tight hole ment shut up about how deep or any gas or oil shows,

A non compete would eliminate the driver from the industry if he or she signed that and had to be fired, dismissed, quit that particular company whatever it is. No one will sign such a thing. Where we are the gas rigs and so forth are pretty public information since the boom we have been enjoying these last 15 years past. But there are companies that would like to keep their operations quiet and I would not be surprised to see a few NDA's around.

I have been part of NDA for years in a variety of situations and find that mouth shut, left door shut and roll takes care of most of the potential conflicts. Particularly when hauling medicine.

NDA's nowaday's would cover mostly how, and who an employee or contractor communicates with while working for a company. Most company's these days have very strict rules on mentioning who you work for, travel for, haul for, etc. No names, pictures, locations, etc., are to ever be posted on social media sites such as this one, Fakebook, Twitter, etc. doing so could lead to termination.
Non-compete clauses generally apply to management, corporate office holders, and account managers (salesman/lady). The time frame generally is 1 year for sales, and anywhere from 2 to 5 years for upper management, or even longer for an owner who sells a company.
