I understand this sentence, but I don't understand how it was relevant to my post that you quoted. Are you saying that you don't trust your DM?

Sorry I wasn't very clear. It was a reply to your statement that if you work for a reputable company, you won't have to worry about it. I just envisioned a possible scenario in which the DM asked things of the driver that the company would not necessarily (or would for that matter) condone but the driver is sort of stuck in the position of having deal with at the time.

I've read SO MANY HORROR STORIES on this forum that I'm A: Absolutely amazed that any noobie would even consider trucking after hanging around this forum for even a few days. B: starting to think about covering my ### before any problems start. I'm starting with Swift on Monday. I already have my CDL so it's orientation and out on the road for six weeks. I had to go with them since I have two DWI's on my record and they still haunt me even they were going on 19 and 17 years ago. More doors will open for me once I get a year or so of experience but my hands were tied and the unemployment benefits ran out so I had to start earning ASAP.

I know this is an old topic....

Taking pictures, I recently had my Dispatcher giving me a hard time. She wouldn't give me all the details and would then try and pin it on me, by telling me she told me.When she would call me she would always get pissed with me and hang up on me, so I gave her 3 strikes and she lost phone privileges.

I stopped answering my cell when she called, and the only communication we did was going to be over the Qual from now on. She then tried to bombard the qual with pointless messages and over and over, especially while I was driving. I now only return messages either before i start running or when I am packing it in for the night. I told her if there was a change of plan then she may call me and leave me a voicemail.

If you have a cell phone with at least a 2 mp or at least a 2 megapixel digicam then thats good enough quality. Pull the curtain closed, turn off all lights, adjust the contrast and turn the light on the qual on and you should get a clear picture. I recently showed her a picture of the message she said she sent me with all the info about my load assignment. She said she messaged me and she was going to swap the load, and that she told me on the qual during the load assignment but the message never showed me and she never did tell me she was going to swap it.

The picture is clear enough to show all dates and times sent and received

If you have a memory card its easy to go to walmart and get a print, or a digital copy to email to a supervisor. Eitherway.

I have some digital copies of the quality, PM if you'd like to see the quality. my phone takes 1600x1200 pixel 2megpixel pictures. I have a Samsung Blackjack 2 but really any cell with external memory capabilities would work great, even 1.2 megapix

Also most phones and digi cams have a video option, the video is the same quality as the pic, so you could also take a video with commentary as you scroll through the messages if you have a severe case or issue arise. No question the messages are real and not messed with there.

I told her I was a paralegal before this.... she didn't listen.

Qualcom and/or the company in fact store/save messages. These are saved for a time frame determined by the carrier.

The difference between film camera and digital camera in this regard is that the film camera has a negative that's VERY hard for people to mess with. Yeah, if you scan the print image, you can mess with it - but the negative is pretty reliable. This is one of the primary reasons most accident kits have disposable cameras, rather than el-cheapo digital.

Nothing at all to do with being or not being a technophobe

    psanderson Thanks this.

Lurchgs- may also have something to do with cost of a disposable versus cost of a real camera... one with computer components in it too boot.

If you are doing things you shouldn't be doing, even having proof that you were told to do it by your company isn't going to save your ### or your license.

If you are talking about breaking company rules, keeping the evidence will help, sure. But if you are talking about doing illegal or dangerous things, just say no.

Here's the deal with Quallcomms. ANY msg sent is saved for 6 mo. on the company computers. So if you are unsure of the legality of something you are being to. tell them to send a msg saying that.

I had a refer I was picking up at a yard after dropping there. i had run 11 hrs to get there. the refer on the p/u was not running. I called breakdown and told them It was about 5pm on a Saturday. They couldn't get ahold of the on-call mech. So they told me to take it to the dealer 60 miles away. I told them I couldn't because I was out of hrs. This is what they told me AND sent to my Quallcomm.

" The DOT has a 2hr exception to the 11hr rule if it's to save a load. (company name) will take any and all responsibility for anything that happens" :biggrin_25512:

After reading this I told him he was full of it and that I wasn't doing it. About a week latter I found out that the owner found out about all of this and fired the breakdown guy for being stupid. Companies don't like it when there are msg that put them in the wrong.

Schlepper - that's part of it - but there are small digital cameras that cost less than $10 these days.

The use of film is still preferred because of legal issues - the average Joe can't tamper with the negatives.

The problem with the digital is after it leaves the camera. If it is saved on one source and then saved to another, the trail is then viable. It is time stamped.
