I am entitled to an opinion on this.

I slept years ago next to a truck. I am a very light sleeper. I got up and went inside and the guy next to me got up. I came out after the morning ritual in the restroom with the mountain dew. I was just barely going to get to the shipper.

He said my battery is dead and I have been up for hours trying to get a jump. So, I have my doubts. Yes, I jumped him and was late because I had to circle the entire parking area in a J in Eloy to get back to his truck and jump him.

I will keep my doubts.

I commend you for doing the right thing, even though, I do not buy the entire story he told.

And one other thing. Notice, I can respond without the special deleted comment characters.

 

I-81 northbound (Preble) or southbound (Whitney Point)? Wish I'd known, I'm 10 miles from the Whitney Point rest area. I'd have gone and tried to help him out in my car. Good on ya, skateboardman.

 

And then there is always that one guy. You know him. The one who has to point out that the fish you caught couldn't have been eight inches but five instead--then acts like it not only adds to the discussion but is well warranted too!

Does it really matter if the dude had been trying to get a jump for 12 hours or not?

Does the doubting of a minor fact really alter the outcome of what you would personally do in this situation? I mean had the guy been stranded for 18 hours would you not help him under the guise that his story must be bull?

Or better yet would you help him, but provide a lecture the entire time on how you really didn't think he was stranded for such a long time? Because that kind of discourse is gonna get his truck fired right up!

I guess for today, Roadmedic gets to be that guy... The one who is beholden to the idea that because you are entitled to an opinion it means everyone wants to hear it.

For that I say kudos to you and thank you for your excellent contribution to this thread about assisting others when everyone else has turned a blind eye.

I for one will be more aware of the lies and deciet next time I see a trucker broke down on the side of the road. Or in a truck stop, or rest area.

Good job skateboardman. And I hope that guy had some food in the truck. That's a really long time.

I agree with most, that was a great thing to do. But just to be clear, sometimes you literally don't have the time to do that. Shippers and receivers don't share that compassion, and couldn't care less about your fellow trucker, and they are the real sad ones. 12 hours is way too long to wait, and after a few hours, that driver should have broke down and called a service truck. It sucks breaking down, it happens to everyone, and you should probably have a plan for when it does happen. Before cell phones, you had to help someone, it was just part of the job. I carried a huge box of every tool I had, spare filters, you name it, because you were on your own. Cell phones changed all that. Now you are just a phone call away from help. It's great to hear of people like Skateboardman are still out there, kindness needs to be shared, or we're all doomed.

 

If you noticed, I commended him as well. I just have a hard time with the 12 hour part.
