After 16 years, drove one a couple weeks ago while mine was being serviced, not bad, did notice though at stop sign on incline, when I took off it still tried to skip gears and I felt a little hung out to dry while it picked up speed to get through left turn.
Saw an automatic Mack today.

Was it a Superior Mack, or did it belong to an O/O?

It was a company truck.

Hey david, did you fully inspect this new Mack? Is the storage space the same or improved?
-
Same storage space unfortunately. I know at the driver trainer class the Mack engineers got in a peterbilt and inspected it pretty closely, so maybe that will eventually change.
-
Well I guess not having the shifter on the floor frees up some space to fit an extra case of water or something. I wonder if all the new Macks we order will be automatics.

I have an automatic mack with the Mdrive on the dash but I work for QC. It's really not that bad. At first I thought it would be a deal breaker but I gave it a chance. Only complaints I have is. If the trailer nose is low while loaded, getting under it and backing under the rest of the trailer can some time be a pain and cause it to slam back until it latches the fifth wheel around the king pin. That's where I miss the clutch. Also, when you're on a hill and loaded sometimes it starts in a gear higher then should, starts to go, down shifts and jerks bad. But other then that lol I haven't taken it in the winter but I'm pretty sold on it, about 89%
