I saw my first tornado today!!!!!
I'm down here in AL in the belly of the beast...I was on 78S, turned on my wx radio and heard of a tornado in the area then the rain and hail started...Thankfully, the rain and hail started, it may have saved me...It got so bad I had to slow from 65 to 45 and as soon as I broke out of torrential rain, there was the tornado crossing the road less than a mile in front of me...This was at 5:19pmCDT at exit 121....AMAZING!!!!!!...It crossed so fast it was out of sight in 30 seconds...If I hadn't had to slow up, I may have been right in it...
Then I get to Birmingham and a tornado had just devastated a hotel and neighborhood, worst destruction I've ever seen up close, I took video which I am going to try and upload shortly...THEN I'm finally thru that and on 20 at exit 147 and hear about another tornado crossing 20 between exits 152 and 161...I pulled over with the other 100 trucks and waited for 20 minutes then proceeded to exit 165 to a TS to park...CRAZIEST DAY I've ever had....
Disclaimer: Yes, I want to see them, I want to chase them and watch them till they disappear...I'm absolutely fascinated by them and have been since I was a young child...

Congratulations... I guess? LoL
I have seen quite a few and passed areas right after they hit. It's surreal sometimes. I've seen 3 in Oklahoma in one day and passed through Stroud right after the tornado took out the outlet mall. I walked out of the TA in downtown Nashville as other people were running inside from their trucks only to round the corner of the building, see the funnel cloud amongst the buildings, and run back inside myself. One night I was woke up by the truck rocking at the rest area outside York, Ne. Turned on the CB and had a guy asking if we were ok in the rest area or did that tornado hit us....
Spend any amount of time out there you'll see them. In one way it's a neat experience. But after a while you just feel like you're cheating death. -
I was on 20 at exit 168 last night.....woke up to the truck rocking, saw the rain and wind, turned my radio on and heard that we were under a tornado and thunderstorm warning...162 - 191......they said another storm was coming in this afternoon.....so glad I'm sitting in TX right now.

Can't wait to see your video. I've traveled across the country and never have seen a tornado... always just out of line of sight to see them, but see the hail.
Congratulations -
I've seen many. The first one was back in the 80's in Oklahoma City. It just missed town and it was a massive F5. I stood there in aw and didn't know whether to run or not, lol. I had a box culvert picked out. Last year I dodged 3 of them in KY coming down I-24. The eeriest one I seen afterwards, cut a path through the woods into someones house about 5 miles away. It was a brand new log cabin home. The husband and wife ran into the basement. The tornado picked up the house a couple feet and dropped it about a foot off center. The center beam broke and fell on the woman. Killed her right beside her husband. If they just stayed upstairs....
Another time delivering in Des Moines I was sitting on the dock getting unloaded. The strangest looking solid black clouds moved in. Then the sirens went off. I noticed there was no more forklift on my truck. I went inside and there wasn't a soul around, dang cowards left me, lol. The tornado passed about 2 miles to the north. I'll never forget them clouds. -
Back in 98 was heading East in NE around the 229. Teamate woke up needed to go to the rest bathroom. I looked in the mirror told him HELL NO and to look in the Mirrors. He saw the Tornado Chasing my butt down the Interstate. I was punching in the override command into the computer to get more speed at the same time. Meantime my team mate is sitting there I neeed to pee I go you have a choice out the window or a bottle. He went give me the bottle I was not stopping. He went then thru it out into the twister. I wonder were it landed.

Seeing the news this morning, Tuscaloosa got hit hard. The tornado was like a mile wide. Platt City a suburb of Birmingham also got hit hard. Some 178 dead in five states, 138 in AL alone. Over 150 tornado's reported. That must of been one heck of a storm.
I know it's not funny at all, but CBS was showing a church that got leveled outside Birmingham. You can see this black lady in the background dragging branches out of her yard across the street and throwing them on the church property. Caught on national TV, lol. -
Ive seen quite a few in my life, and I never get used to it. Amazing amounts of power.
