update 1-14-11
In San Antonio Tx right now waiting to get loaded up. Last week I got 2400 miles (would have been more but I had a 1100 mile trip that will get added to this weeks settlement) Got a load from Kraft that should never have been loaded onto that trailer. Trailer was tagged out of service, brakes didnt work, tandems wouldnt slide, and was low on coolant (reefer). waiting to hear about detention pay since I had to wait for a day to get the repairs...
even with truck payments, and fuel and such, I still cleared more than $800 last week. So I am happy.
Still loving KLLM.

Sounds like your lease is working out well for you. And your positive attitude and approach to the trucking biz is a big factor too.
Could you take a moment and give us some specifics on KLLM's lease program? Their web site gives cpm rates, which compare favorably with other companies, but some info on what type of trucks are available, whether or not apu's are included or available, amount of truck payment and associated escrow accts, down payment and credit requirements, etc., etc.
Best of luck to you, especially in the crazy weather around so much of the country lately. -
load per cent depends on how many miles...
1-199 is like $1.50
200-299 is like $1.20
300-399 is like $1.05
400 + is $0.88
plus you get a fuel surcharge of a varying amount for all loaded miles (based on national diesel average.) this week it is $0.40 per mile.
Trucks are Freightliner Cascadias or Columbias 05-10
payment is based on what the company is paying for it... (you take over the payment at the companies rate and the companies interest rate.)
some have APU's some dont. if the shop has an extra APU you can buy it from the company at a greatly reduced rate.
0 down payment, 0 credit needed.
at the end of the lease you buy the title for $1.00
two maintenance accounts to choose from.... Escrow (fund of $5000 built up in $0.11 per mile increments which is YOUR money but is used repairs.) or... bumper to bumper... KLLM takes care of all the repairs, bills, etc... you pay $0.11 per mile for the entire length of your lease.
I also have the freedom to hand the keys back them at ANY time....
AND... if KLLM is even ONE DAY late on a payment to the financier... I have the ability to pull the lease from KLLM and be a true O/O with the same payment and interest rate (mine is 7.75%)Poobah, 123456, The Challenger and 1 other person Thank this. -
They have some new Volvos now, I think they bought 30. Seems they weren't happy with the Cascadias.

Re. their L/P program, are they only offering the existing older inventory or do they make some of the more recently purchased tractors available as well?
Read on one of the KLLM threads here that the company prefers that all drivers ( co or l/p ) avoid routing east of Denver on I-70 from Sept 1 through May 31. True or false?
Thanks for some useful and informative posting there Romans, the numbers and other details that you and a few others have shared are most helpful. -
My 2 cents worth. Romans have you had truck payments out yet . KLLM was not going to take payments out til the 21st I think. As to how it works as anexample my truck is an 08 with. 447k miles 385 # wk for 21 months. And at end of lease truck is 1 dollar. For me the #'s are roughly $38k for the truck. KLLM has a mix of trucks available from brand new to 3-4 year old ( with expected mileage) . As I understand it there are not any more APU's available. Jim Richards(the president) said he wanted the best program in the industry.
Poobah Thanks this. -
Poobah. KLLM prefers that drivers avoid I-70 west of Denver and will actively route people around that stretch of I-70. The reasons are many. My personal experiance there is that patch of road has very variable weather conditions year round . I understand the concerns and I still go that way. KLLM policy is that it is a driver decision but if something happens accept the consequences.
Poobah Thanks this. -
Thanks Professor for your response. Nice to know that the co. lets the driver make the final call. That's one of the prettiest drives around when the weather is good...if I ever wanted to give up the Arizona sunshine I could easily picture living in a place like Glenwood Springs!
There's a great little spot to spend the night in the town of Eagle. At exit #147 down on the south side of I-70 there's a large dirt parking lot that's used for fairgrounds parking. Easy walking distance to several restaurants and a little convenience store. The best part of all is that the parking lot is almost always empty and overlooks a beautiful little river that makes a nice spot for a hike and a little fishing time. -
For those who are leasing, just a few questions:
- If one elects to do the maintenance escrow at .11 cpm rather than just paying .11 cpm to KLLM for maintenance coverage, is the escrow acct. interest bearing and is any surplus fully refunded to the lessee upon successful completion of the lease?
- Are any surplus/unused monies refunded should the lessee decide to exercise the 'walk-away' option before completing the original agreement?
- Are there any excess milage fees associated with KLLM's lease/purchase contract?
- Does the maintenance escrow acct. top out at $5000.? If so, what options does the lessee have to cope with a repair costing in excess of the available amount in escrow?
