This is how good photo technology and tagging has become. This is me crossing a scale in Oregon a few days ago. Shows my truck then my license plate. I edited out my number, however, it is as clear as a bell. My understanding is that they are now installing this infrared photo technology along highways, country roads, etc, and concealing them.

There is not a mass installation of cameras going on. What there is is a budget crisis. No funding is available to spy on truckers.

I worked in the office of a trucking company for a little over a year. I sat in on a DOT audit. The auditor asked for a random pull of 10 trucks for the previous 6 mos. When she returned after a couple of weeks, one of the lease operators for the company was busted for log violations with the use of this very technology. Whether there is a mass use of the technology or not, I don't know. However, I'm positive that it is being utilized here on the west coast.

It's been out there a long while. Even when the scale is close your getting photoed

I realize that. I just thought I'd share a couple of pics of mine since I have access to my State DOT OSCAR inquiry page as an owner operator with my own authority.

I believe Indiana has been doing this for a while. Scale open or not they take your picture.

Of course with the onset of the elog mandate next year, this technology becomes less necessary.
I think one of the main reasons Oregon is using it is to make sure they get their PUC road tax.
Keeps carriers who try and skirt paying the road tax while traveling through the state on their toes.LindaPV Thanks this. -
What other states have similar equipment?

Washington uses it. California is also using it at some of their checkpoints near the Mexican border.
