North Carolina requires all trucks with a GVWR in excess of 10,000lbs to enter the scale. So, technically, you cannot bypass it.

See many private dually trucks in there?

Or do you see many of the retired people pulling their campers with a dually in there?

I am simply reciting the law to you. Do with it what you wish. I would say the DOT would be more likely to track down a class 8 truck that blew by a scale rather than a Chevrolet 3500.

There is a scalemaster on here that claims the same. Yet, I know his state and never see the privates in there or them chasing them down. This can include a Class 8 truck, because many are not considered commercial.

You have to meet the definition of a commercial motor vehicle in order to be worried on this.

question I have is: as he's transporting the vehicle to his home, he should not be considered participating in Interstate commerce. So, he should not be subject to FMCSA rules and reg...right?

I drove the truck home, stoped at every scale and was asked for a logbook and med card. I used a logbook but ut private or personal truck in the company . Then he just took it read it and said keep goin. That was all.

Until the truck is converted to a non-commercial vehicle it is considered for commercial use.

I've done this four times and twice I would get some one in Ohio pulling an inspection on the truck or hassling me about the paper work.
