Whenever I had to pull into a scalehouse I always made sure I had some vaseline handy, just in case they didn't supply any.

 

Just make sure you follow what your pre-pass says.
If it is red you must go in, even if they have a sign saying you are ok to bypass (on highway).
They have been busting drivers for this in LA and WI, as well as some other states I believe.

 

UserName - fortunately, in CO, if you get the green light, you do get to bypass. My trainer thought (and this holds for Wyoming, too) that upon entry into the state for the first time in a week, you had to stop, whether green lighted or not.

I asked, specifically, about it. The nice (and really pretty) DOT lady said "Green light means you do not have to stop. Period"

 

My trainer was pulling a load were we was over gross because of fuel and it said may trucking dangerous grades ahead.

I went to sleep as I did not want to risk getting pulled in for a overweight ticket. If I would of been awake he would of made me drive.

 

Yeah, that's what I mean, CO seems to use the AVI as a means to see if your truck is in the computer. If you're all ready in you get a green light which as you say, is essentially a bypass. As for getting a red light & stopping this usually only happens about once a year in CO. The computer sees that your registration has expired & it'll give you a red light sending you in so the officer can check & enter your new registration.

I get redlighted a lot in TN although they always let me roll on over the scales and go on . I'll get a red light at one scale then a green light at another TN scale a couple of hours later .

 

Yeah, and give them a plunger in advance just in case they ran out of those, too.
I haven't had to go through a weigh station in over - well since 1994. These electronic passes didn't exist, GPS didn't exist, weigh stations just had trucks pulling in until there was too much and it was starting to come close to interfering with traffic on the highway.
But the rules apparently haven't changed once you get in there : ) Important things like the mood of the scalemaster and the time of day - is it break time - and whether the person is an anal-retentive or is a normal person just looking for the due-respect......

 

make sure you do not bounce the scale.
I always come to a complete stop before I get on the scale.
