This happened to me one time in Wyoming. So I called the port told'em my situation and they said no problem come in we'll way ya and you can get it right and be on your way.
Pumpkin Oval Head and Dave_in_AZ Thank this. -
I would travel a thousand miles to find a CAT scale with 11 dollars in hand rather than travel TO a DOT scale man who probably will write a ticket fine large enough if not greater than the fuel burn over 1000 miles.
I have sat on scales in the past with some really outrageous violations in the past with weights and sometimes I have had scales opened in my face by the lawman stuck behind me at 16 when he knows darn well I can USUALLY pull that same hill at 22 loaded. That one near Williamsport PA was a smart cookie. Got me with extra pallets in the nose that day. And not too many old iron tractors like mine in that area regularly as well.EuropeanTrucker Thanks this. -
Keep your #### wired tight driver. Don't ever hope for the generosity of othets.

It's always a good idea to know what you weigh empty. I know I am about 32500 empty, give or take, based on how much fuel I have. That said, 45500 is my limit. That's usually about the weight of a water load or beer load
Oldironfan Thanks this. -
I've picked up there quite a bit. I hate when the load goes north or south. Not so bad if it's going west across the state. First time I went there I thought I must have screwed up. Weird place for a plant that size & the amount of truck traffic on that tiny road.tucker Thanks this.
-
Yeah.. because DOT cops have no idea where any of those roads are..
-
Yes, and don't have things called portable scales! Right here in Virginia the DOT busts drivers all the time with those infernal things almost everyday.x1Heavy Thanks this.

There is one by old Raton on US 287. Ive had to hop the 18 wheeler up onto those bathroom scales. I hate them. Not so much as the weight (That's not the problem, I usually had a CAT ticket with the load bills, with CAT generally being compared to 19 master scales nationally) the bathroom scales should not be allowed to determine if I am too heavy and have to pay alot of money. You are putting 4 or 5 ton onto a little plate the size of a dinner plate and it's not fair.
