the term, sticking together. will never happen. with the truckers we have these days. most of them haven't even been driving a year yet. and don't even care for what trucking SHOULD be like. thanks to all the stupidity they do to cause the govt to over regulate us.

i'm sitting in a TS right now. the driver next to me feels he's special. cuz he needs TWO spots to sleep in. and he works for stevens transport.

i know the calculations are off. i don't expect perfect. it's better then nothing at all. cuz all i had before was the overall average on the dash.

least wioth the gauge. i have a better idea of what's happening between shut downs. and the trips i take throughout the day. i know what i'm doing in the hills. and on flat land. can't do that with just the overall average of one tank full.

throw in everything else it can do. and it was money well spent as far as i'm concerned. defenitly can't beat the price.

First- pretty much everything worthwhile ever accomplished has been the result of people sticking together. Winning our independence from England, winning World War 2, developing the atomic bomb, overcoming the Great Depression, whatever you want to name, it was achieved by people sticking together and working in concert.

Second- If driving a truck is that easy, why do we have so many truck driving jobs available and why do so many owner-operators fail in the business?

I don't want to hijack this thread, when I have time I will start a “Kevin Rutherford is a charlatan” thread and discuss the damage I believe his advice and political/economic opinions cause.

I do think the Scan Guage is a great idea- except it's not really his idea, he just had an existing product modified- and would almost certainly buy one if it was being marketed by anyone I could respect.

I got mine off Ebay for $160... love it...

As for sticking together, I've been saying for YEARS that we need to have some solidarity... not necessarily a union or anything, but more along the lines of "This [fill in the blank] is a place that needs to learn how important truckers are to their survival" and then, EVERYONE refuse loads to/from whatever was in the blank... for instance: a little town in KS, called El Dorado, decided to create a nice little "extort the trucker" setup... they took a 3 block section of U.S. 54 and, without proper signs, made it a restricted route, causing trucks to deviate 18 miles around just to make that 3 blocks... the penalty?? $100.00 The city kitty who wrote me, bragged that he write 200-400 tickets EVERY year because the signs aren't very clear.. hahaha.. that's 20k-40k EVERY year generated by that one single punk.

Even though I reported this to both FMCSA and FHWA, and BOTH agencies agreed that the city's action is ILLEGAL, they won't do anything about it... soooo... IF we could stick together and boycott that little flyspeck, they would be shooting each other for food in about 3 days after NO truck deliveries... alas, too many "I've gotta get MINE" steering wheel holders to EVER get a little thing like that accomplished... believe me, it would make NATIONAL headlines if we were to do a grassroots boycott anytime some place/person/shipper/receiver decided that truckers are ####### and can be victimized and abused at will... When the stupid new rules went into effect on July 1, MY idea was to get EVERY single truck in the country to set the brakes on both shoulders and all lanes of every interstate at precisely noon, EST, and take their 30 minute break... IMAGINE how freaked out the whole country would be if we just took our MANDATORY shutdown at the same time and shut down every major road for 30 minutes... hmmm... ya think they have enough bears to write that many tickets??? Ya think we'd ALL get fired??? NOPE! But it sure would make a statement! I'm an O/O, so I can't get fired, but I would still do it if I was a company driver... this kind of action actually BENEFITS the M/C, so I seriously doubt that there would be wholesale firings... ahhh well... 'Tis nice to dream, eh?

A caveat. It can only create the gauge if your ECM provides the data. Some ECM's are limited in the info they provide.

your ecm supports it, If you have a sensor sending the info to the ecm is what you need to know. look at your turbo, there will be a sensor on the exhaust pipe about 8 inches from the turbo.

the scangauge basically allows you to read most info being sent to the ecm. And read and clear trouble codes. the main difference between the kr version vs the standard D version is the instant fuel economy readout. on the kr version it's 8 seconds average, on the standard D it displays a true instant( similar to the gas mileage display many cars have. on both models you can program 4 different readouts to be displayed at once, the rest you can view by scrolling the buttons
