What are the two red things mounted on the very back of the chassis one on top of the other.....? Hitches for tag along trailers ???

yes , those are drawbar couplings from VGB, 57mm
this is quite unusual solution
here is normal to have one installed higher with 137KN 40mm as for normal trailers , (they are used to pull empty selftracking trailers )
and one installed down with 50mm used to pull modular trailers with D value of 310KN ,
those both seems to me are 200KN force only , (maybe 290kn they all look similar)
in europe in more serious heavy haulage we use balasted tractors and trailers are pulled as drawbar because it is sometimes difficult to get weight to 5th wheel, that makes a huge bending moment in modular trailers , also allow more weight if tractor is heavy
also those drawbeams are capable of pulling only 200KN each,
also to pull very heavy loads with drawbar trailer here all scania trucks have extended inside profile of chassis , and here we put pressure plate on top of chassis to make chassis even more rigid
who knows maybe japanese use both hooks at same time , otherwise i dont see reason for 2of them at same location , same size
this is standard solution , only except placed higher
Cat sdp Thanks this. -
i dont see many japanese trucks pulling trailers as drawbar
they have some very strong trailer necks
edit: i forget to say why is good to have trailer coupling low,
not only because trailer is low, but for traction reasons , and to prevent truck to lift its front axles when pulling heavy,
it is very common thing that truck lift its both front axles while pulling heavy loads like 300+ ton as tractor+semitrailers
it is important that trailer hitch is in line with drive axles
another important thing is that there are not big angles in driveshaftsLast edited: Jan 18, 2015

What do you think a R730 6x6 with those specs costs..?
-
i think it is impossible to answer,
here manufacturers form their prices on different ways,
if market is important to them they would do anything to get inside,
scania did not had presence in japanese market before except some normal 4x2 tractors imported and branded by hino
now scania is getting pretty nice sale numbers there
there is one very interesting R580 8x4/4 tractor with extra slow diffs and 730 gearbox, 17x R580 6x4 with slow diffs and 730 gearbox, ( as much i know maybe in last 4-5months some more arrive)
many 6cil 6x4 tractors also with hub reduction axles for lighter heavy haulage, many 6x2/4 tractors involved in some lighter heavy haulage
our banned member lenny v8 was interested to buy scania here, as they charge it 50% more in finland
730 6x6 is special order , normally scania dont offer awd chassis above 450hp or eventually 490 , most manufacturers are not happy to offer high hp engines with awd ,
but i think we can talk about 150 000 +tax for this onesCat sdp Thanks this. -
real heavy haulage tractors with hydraulic clutch and extra cooling for clutch and retarder
from mercedes cost 8x4 260 000 , man is 40 000 less, for 3drive axles at MAN you will pay 75000 forget for merceses but lot cheaper -
nice video how one of r730 6x6 from austria is being built , note that in 21century bodywork is still not build in advance....
i think company that own truck ( they have about 30trucks or more) very interesting fleet , have some 4x2 tractors and 3axle semitrailers, 6x2 rigids 6x4 rigids , 6x4 +hydrodrive , 6x6 , they use both classic full trailers and centralaxle trailers
they have roots from croatia , this surname almost dont exist here now
