Who’s got the biggest engine, smallest engine, most power or fuel economy really don’t matter. If Cummins or Cat or other manufacturers really wanted to, they can play the power game like what’s going on with the diesel pickups that we have here.
It’s because North American engines are under “hoods” while European engines are under “bonnets.” North American mechanics wear “coveralls” and uniform shirts while European mechanics wear “white lab coats” That can mean the difference of say 200 hp’s easy.
I’ve always heard that in the US engine manufactures made a deal with the government to keep hp down to save on emissions..... fines and or taxes.
Not far from the truth, but 99% of the time who really needs 800 hp? You are just burning fuel needlessly.
I have to thank you all for your responses and for you sharing your experience, im only 15yrs old and i have alot of interests and one of them is this topic, THANK YOU SO MUCH.
Honest truth is most posts like these are troll bait. Things are different for many reasons without requiring them to be better or worse. European trucks need shorter engine blocks because of the cabover designs.
Hard to believe those powerful trucks can lay rubber with 8 tires while hauling down the track with a loaded b-train. Here’s a pic from the video @Trucking in Tennessee sent. Unbelievable how the driveline can take that.
