I was told never to rely on just GPS. Use that Motor Carriers' Guide to check roads. If in doubt call the customer and explain before you get there and maybe they can re route.

    Illinois is:
Up to and including 2000 pounds overweight, the fine is $100
From 2001 through 2500 pounds overweight, the fine is $270
From 2501 through 3000 pounds overweight, the fine is $330
From 3001 through 3500 pounds overweight, the fine is $520
From 3501 through 4000 pounds overweight, the fine is $600
From 4001 through 4500 pounds overweight, the fine is $850
From 4501 through 5000 pounds overweight, the fine is $950
From 5001 or more pounds overweight, the fine shall be computed by assessing $1500 for the first 5000 pounds overweight and $150 for each additional increment of 500 pounds overweight or fraction thereof.

So, if you've got a 40 ton truck on a 5 ton road, you're 70,000 pounds overweight and it'll cost you.
$1500 for the 1st 5000...which leaves 65,000 pounds. That's 130 increments of 500 pounds, times $150 each is another $19,500. Grand total is $21,000...and if you've received 3 other overweight cites in the state during the previous 12 months, you can add on another $5,000.

Also. I don’t think those numbers are right since it says minimum fine of 750.

Hate that you were running late on your load and got into this trouble. I think you mean going south on
S Steger Monee Rd then turning right going west on Dralle Rd. On Dralle Rd there is a 5 ton limit sign on it, maybe too late after turning though. In most areas of IL, the roads are ancient and not suitable for truck traffic if they are a little white line on Google maps, my husband calls them dirt roads; try to stay off these as much as possible if you can, yellow roads and interstate and closest exit is best usually. Companies may put you routed on icky roads, but they should keep you on legal ones to begin with, the filling in the blank as to where you should be is the fun part.

Wilmington, IL is one place to stay out of main town or you will get a ticket. River Road off I-55 x241 is next to the river, but will take you to US Cold Storage/Kraft. Once leaving, he has gone across Rt 25 Peotone Rd to get to I-57. It is a what I call a cowtrail too, but driveable.

There are also a lot of railroad tracks to worry about too in IL. If you have a laptop with internet service, then make sure you scroll areas before you get there. Watch for rivers As mentioned in previous posts, a lot of times the docks are on some other road than the main address. Rand McNally may get you to the front door, but not where you really need to be.

The other driver in the past, caught going over a low weight bridge was up in IL also in what I call the Chicagoland area. I don't remember which area, Oak Park, Elmhurst, Des Plains, just draw a circle around all the area, but it was going over water and the driver stated on here that all the trucks went that way to fill up their tanks. It seems like it was a $21000.00 fine for it also. With all the bridges having problems it seems, it could have possibly been a newly declared no truck bridge.

There was no bridge though. It was just a normal road
