Why in the world these companies put new drivers on some of the most difficult fleets is beyond me. I'm more experienced then I care to admit and they could not pay me enough to do those stupid dollar stores even for a week. That said. In my early OTR days, I was doing NYC loads and multi-drop newspaper loads in big cities in small towns with deliveries off the town square. That's where I learned an awful lot in a few years.

But today? I do appreciate my OTR gig with 2,000 mile+ avg runs. Not so much BS to deal with .

But if I had to. I'd study each one well beforehand on Google and make a phone call if I did not have detailed directions ahead of time.

Do they not provide detailed directions and notes about the individual stores? But even at that, knowing the correct approach is only about 60% of the battle. The other 40% is actually navigating the last 200 feet.

Relax Werner isn't going to fire you. I doubt you'll even get called into safety. But this accident will go on your record as a preventable.

Just went on Google maps to look at the street view. That could of definitely turned ugly if someone was sitting or standing there waiting for the bus. I'm terrified of killing someone myself because how big these f'n trailers are.

    Be very careful.

I've been in this business for 20 years, and I still do a ton of trip planning when I get a new dispatch. Google Maps, and especially the satellite view, is your friend for sure.

Just the other day, I had a dispatch picking up in a weird place, and even with Google Maps, I couldn't figure out the way in to the facility, or where the docks were. When in doubt, call. The lady that answered told me exactly what to do, where to turn, etc, and I got there easily.

Always utilize every resource you have available before you head off to the customer.

You answered your own question there, STexan. Anyone with even a little trucking experience wouldn't want to do a dollar store load. New guys, starry eyed and "living the dream", don't know any better, and megas like Werner prey on that.

You laugh, but if I'm right about where that place is, right turns in that part of the world are to be avoided if at all possible, IMO.

    ....Except perhaps at 3:00 AM.

I think the term "regular home time" is what draws many in. And I understand the money is not bad, but I just don't need that amount of stress and grief in my life. Not to mention all the physical labor. The young kids can have that crap.
