last year was doing a "uncover run" from bangor me going to greenfield ma grossing 115k been going for 32 hours straight dumb i know i was coming down i-95 on my 4th 5 hr engergy everything was going good and the tunes blasting away when all of a sudden out of nowhere a toll plaza appeared out of nowhere on a slight downgrade right in front of me. needless to say i fell asleep. well i locked em up apparently just in the nick of time pulled up to the attended handed the money for the toll asked her where the closed rest area was. she politely told me about .5 miles away with a smile on her face and there i went. i slept for 14 hrs straight. the boss called me later and asked where i was at and i pretty much told him to go screw himself.

i'm not proud of it but unfortunately it wasnt the longest "day" i've worked i did a 39 hour stint about 2 weeks before that that when boss was on vaca and i had to pick up his slack. i was stupid for doing it but i was new to the industry and i wanted to impress. when i left him i went to a different trash hauling outfit and it was go go go but i was able to keep it under 100 hrs a week (old habits die hard) and still bring home over a grand week.
now that im flatbedding i'm pretty much all legit now 70/80 hrs a week and everything is logged unlike before where its very easy to make loads go *poof* and i make 1100-1200 take home.

about 5yrs ago, driving across i80 in iowa after a snow storm and the roads hadnt been plowed
or was it about 3yrs ago, driving across wyoming all along the shoulder because the road was a sheet of ice
or was it driving thru Penn, by Tuckahana, during a 15 min blinding snow squall
or was it the other day in texas, driving along a 2lane and a truck coming at me, i had to swerve almost in the ditch

none of this is including my 24hr loads from years ago. i swore i would never do those again

you get "life flash before your eyes" moments often out here

His BOSS is a whack job? Nah, his BOSS wasn't the one in the driver's seat. I know this crap happens. But when, (not if) you wind up wiping out a family, or a Greyhound, you will have to deal with it for the rest of your life. IT JUST ISN'T WORTH IT!

i believe the EOBRs were on the books unrelated to accidents, but because they now have more tools to monitor and control
