I had stretched the logbook once to get into the city and park the night before instead of dealing with the traffic in the morning.

The dock had a small lot to back into the dock. At then end of the lot were train tracks. They looked deserted. The lot also had a porta potty. I used it and the last thing I saw before closing the curtains was the tracks. They were close.

I also was in a deep sleep when the whistle was blown very long and loud. Jumped out of the bunk, thinking I was parked on the tracks.

Train whistles have bothered me enough to wake up ever since. Never used to be a problem.

    More freaky than scary.
I crossed the I35 bridge in Minneapolis a couple hours before it collapsed while headed home from my part time job down there. Never realized how often I used it until it was gone.

When I got to work the next morning (at the full time job), my boss was very glad to see me. I don't usually think about the bridge much anymore, and haven't crossed it since it was reopened (because I don't work in the Minneapolis anymore).

Train dreams next to the tracks.... guilty!
    Broken brake pedals.... guilty!
Up until the bridge collapse comment this thread was getting funny.

I drove a cement mixer truck, delivering a load of concrete mix to a new school being built, as i was headed to the job sight i got to an intersection that was open for me, but the cross traffic had stop signs, as i was in the middle of the intersection this high school girl in a chevy geo storm pulled right out in front of me, i laid on the brake as well as the air horn, and turned the wheels to the right and the truck started to tip to the left. the truck was fully loaded with 9 1/4 yards of mix, i pulled the wheel back to the left and somehow kept it up right, i looked in the mirror and the girl kept going, witneses said i only missed her by a fraction of an inch and asked how i kept the truck from tipping over as it had the left duals off the pavement for a few seconds,, for a long time there were skid marks from the intersection going over to the curb thru the intersection, i was ready to call it quits ever driving right there,, i am just glad i didnt hit that car, it would have killed her instantly.

If your avatar is any indication as to your career (past or present), I'm sure you've seen far worse than most of us drivers have. Thank you for your service to our country.

My scariest is a toss up between the old couple in a pickup truck that went from a dead stop on the shoulder, right into the right lane about 200' in front of me (I was running 60) with traffic lined up in the left lane for miles (gotta love those split speed limit states) and driving in the AZ dust storm just a month or so ago that scared the beejeezus outta me.

The only reason that lil ol' man and woman are still alive, IMO, is because they had a CB in their pickup and heard me shouting on the radio, "OH ####!!! BRAKE CHECK, BRAKE CHECK, BREAK CHECK!!! #### #### ####!!!" while I was standing on the brakes. I really tested the ABS tractor and trailer brakes that day. Amazingly, they moved back onto the shoulder when my bumper was about 20' feet off the rear of them, and I was still going at least 30 mph.

That dust storm netted at least 4 accidents, and two of them involved Covenant trucks.

I get that feeling with this tanker truck all the time when i'm tired. I was loaded and sitting at a red light with a box truck in the lane to my left when all of a sudden i got the feeling i was going backwards. I stood up on that brake pedal as hard as I could but I still felt like i was going to crush the car behind me. I then realised that the box truck was messing around and rolling back and forth with his clutch. I had thought the surge had overcome the brakes and was pulling me back. Its when I get real tired that i start imagining stuff. It always has to be something scary like that, not a topless woman in a convertible or something good.
