Thunder; I finally called Millis and got the "too many more qualified candidates" answer from recruiting. I laughed and said must be the "old guy syndrome". She was real curt then and said good bye. I'm 59 and even though I have no citations, wrecks, dui's, or anything else I guess I wasn't good enough. I've been retired for a couple of years so that may have been the killer. Anyway, good luck to you. I see you live in Canton--I'm in Waleska.

So, wht permit o you have o have?

Redwave, hey I can't speak as to why, but if you are serious about driving I did find out that Chat Tech. North Metro campus offers a class and you can probably get funding to cover the class. I know someone that took the course and Swift hired him right after he finished. I have heard there are several well known companies that recruit from there. Since you live just up the road from the school give them a call. It's worth a try if you really want to drive.

Chattahoochee Tech in Acworth, North Ga tech in Clarkesville, and Dekalb tech in Lithonia I believe all have cdl programs and you can use the Hope Grant. All you would have to pay if you get it is the 150 fuel charge and a tech fee but it beats tuition. They are 8 week programs though as I'm looking into those 3 as well. -
If I am not mistaking I read on here someplace that there is a place in Cartersville near the Millis Terminal that does DOT physicals. Can anyone give me that information? I can get one at the local Minute Clinic for $84.00 which seems a little steep to me. Maybe I am wrong please let me know if I am.
Thanks -
Got my permit today. Gonna get the physical next week and then it' shurry up and wait.

Thunderfoot and Bull Dogg please post your experiences. I too want out of my current career and would like to spend the next 15 driving. I had decided to go with Swift and have a starting date of 12/29/10. Then learned FFE has no up front fees, little out of pocket expense and do not take anything out of your checks for reimbursement, so I have a start date of 12/27 with them. Then I started reading about Millis. Unlike FFE and SWift, I have not read any negative posts about Millis which excites me because I dont want to just "full fill" a contract and then move on. I want a company I can stay with and this sounds very possible with Millis. Swift recruiting has been great. FFE the recruiter is rude, short spoken and never returns email or phone calls. A Swift driver, DodgeRam, reminded me a company is made by the employees it employs and FFE has lots of negative posts. That scares me, so now I am considering Millis and Have spoken with Deanna Chambers and she was very pleasant and accomodating. If accepted, they do not have any openings until the last of January or first of February. I obtained my DOT physical and permit this last week. These Millis posts have certainly put some excitement back in my search, so please post your experiences.

Best of luck to you guys! I just finished my training and picked up my own truck Thursday in Cartersville. Greg is a great guy. Keep an open mind, stay positive, watch, listen and learn all you can.

Thanks Bear. I am really looking forward to it. Ironrider, I sure will keep you updated but from what a see on the road, and talking with other drivers I have not really heard anything bad about them.

My search is finally over! I put my application in and it has been accepted. I have paid my $100.00 to reserve a seat in Richfield WI. on January 31, 2011! Have my DOT and permit in hand, ready to roll!
