I only have my class 5 license with air brakes.
I'm not sure if it's usual practice about hiring, but maybe that since break up is around the corner, they figure they can get all the training done first -
we have 4 people who only have a class 5, and yes, during breakup they are sent to the red deer driving school to get their class 1. the way we work is they are a 3rd hand on a crew to get them trained on a pumper. breakup is a great time to get their driver training and then onto a bulker or pumper this summer.

sk306, give eric at trican in lloyd a call and see what he says. 780 875 7327. will have to live within a half hour driving distance from the shop. not sure if we are looking for any one or not.

Thanks for the number bobbyt. Never knew they put guys with class 5 into the field. I always thought they got a 1A first before any field time. What would a job bonus look like for a 3rd hand? With driver training put on durring break up, if I started after break up it seems like it could be quite a while before I got my 1a

thats something to talk to eric about. driver training goes on year round along with green hand school. i spent 1 week in red deer going to green hand school, but i have a class 1 before i started. every one has to go to green hand school before you go into the field.

Wow...
One week of basic safety, one day for Safe-Gulf, and they send you out on the water in the Gulf of Mexico.
I had 14 years out there on oilfield specialty boats (Captain) before BP and Obummer screwed that up... -
These positions are in the Canadian Oil Sands.

i think he's trying to point out that the safety courses these days are more intense than back in the olde days.
well duh, nowadays hairdressers need a license, same with ppl that work with food need a foodsafe cert, need a cert to operate a chainsaw, etc... -
if there is any question on my post, i meant 1 week for company specific training. if you don't have the safety tickets like h2s, first-aid, fall arrest, etc, then thats more time, and if you have to go to driver training classes thats more time yet. can imagine you could spend well over a month doing all your training if you are totally green.
