The ONLY cause of an accident is the DRIVER!!!! Everything else is a condition. A driver drives truck/trailer under low bridge. Did the low bridge cause the accident?? NO, the DRIVER did. Driver jackknifes rig on icy road. Did the icy road cause the jackknife? NO, the DRIVER did. The driver is the only one controlling the vehicle whether it's a 2-wheeler, 4-wheeler, any wheeler, it's your judgment, knowledge, experience or lack thereof that causes the accident no matter what you're driving.

I was trained the same way lol. When you look around though it makes perfect sense, truck driver, eyes forward rarely chscks mirrors loves eating curbs lol, trailer driver, always checking on his trailer, hates eating curbs. You see them every day, passing you, head resting on their hand, never looking back till they lane change.

Older thread, I know but I've been gone awhile. I was told by my DBL that all the new trucks will be autos unless Schneider gets a deal on 10 speeds. Then they will still buy some manuals. Not exactly sure what kind of deal that has to be. I was in a hurry to get going so I didn't inquire further. The lease was up on my truck in February and I still have it so, I kind of stopped listening everytime they bring up a new truck.

We have 51 drivers and I'm pretty sure only one of them has an auto. When I was at Schneider school, I remember drivers from certain accounts having to stay an extra day after "graduation" for automatic training. I can't recall which accounts they were on though. I don't know much about other divisions but I have been seeing a lot of 4 series trucks around. Those are all autos, right?

    Generally speaking yes.

What year is your truck now and how many miles?
Also what do you mean by the lease is up in your truck?

2011 with 557k on her now. This is my 2nd truck so far. I was BS'ing with a tech who said the cutoff year is 2006. But was also told that some of the trucks are leased and not owned by Schneider. Apparently mine is one. They told me in Feb. That I had to trade it in that day, and called me back last minute to run a final load before I trade it in. Wouldn't you know it. The ECM fried that night and I sat for 8 hours waiting for a tow. Anyways, every few weeks they bring up the trade in thing again.

After being in the shop 5 times in the last 6 weeks, it's finally running like a champ. Or as good as a 61 mph truck can run. Call me crazy, but I don't want a new truck.

The lease is with Schneider Finance, so that dont matter. What does matter is how many trucks your account are allotted and just when they will get cycled out.

Soon enough though , they will want all trucks to have the on guard and the other garbage they think makes us safer. I'm sorry , but technology does not fix stupid. Not hiring stupid helps alleviate stupid though.......

That's what didn't make any sense to me about "the lease being up." But thats what they keep telling me. And yes, I am convinced that if I ever do wind up in a wreck, it'll be because Onguard slammed on the brakes all because the car in the lane next to me was exiting the highway. It happens at least twice a week.

On monday, I got passed by a semi that was doing 69. Clean pass, didn't cut me off and the #### onguard still decided to smash the brakes. How the hell is a 61 mph truck going to rear end a 69 mph truck that is still building speed. Instead of anticipating other driver's actions, I have to be more worried about anticipating the system trying to kill me.

The sensitivity has to be adjusted on that on guard...otherwise it'll cause an accident before long.

A lot of our trucks are now leased directly from Daimler. I you look at your registration it will tell you the truck owner and who's responsible for safety.

I could be mistaken but my guess would be money, they don't have to keep replacing gear boxes because Mr. Shifty McGrind makes sure he gets a new one every few months, throw savings on fuel in the mix and it makes sense.
