If you plan on getting hired at Schneider, start doing push ups, jumping jacks, squats, and walking a lot of stairs before you go to orientation. Not sure if you have seen this or participated in one of these tests previously; thought I would share. Here is a video with a little info before you go.

By the way, they do not take this lightly; get physically prepared for it. It is not impossible, but there is no getting around the fact that even those in good physical condition can fail by dropping a knee on the deck at the wrong time or not following the instructions to the letter. We had more than one not make it past this part of the hiring process; one guy that appeared to be in very good shape had his blood pressure spike to an unhealthy level during the test and they sent him home. They are not trying to disqualify you without reason. But are instead trying to ensure you can safely perform the functions of the job without risking injury to yourself.

It's not that bad. Most guys DNF because they fail to breath properly.

Most people hold their breath when lifting. This spikes the heart rate and BP.

Failing to breath properly can add 20-30 points to your BP and likewise to your heart rate.

Yep. They even told us that before we started. They really want everyone to pass. Some people just do not practice things like deep knee bends and slow, smooth, deep breathing or walking up and down stairs while breathing in the same fashion. Also, the weighted pull and push gave the two ladies in our group a challenge; one passed and one did not. People in orientation also worry about their performance on the tests, which adds to their stress and blood pressure numbers, because they, for what ever reason, were not aware they had to perform the tests.

While I am only 5'7" and 160 lbs, I am physically active; in fact I scored in the top 1% of all US Navy personnel on nearly every Physical Readiness Test throughout my career; including my last one just a few years ago. Even so, I darn near did not pass the Horizontal Pull; Remember - LEAN BACK A LITTLE AND USE THOSE LEG MUSCLES - Whewww... Made it.

I remember back in Feb when I went through orientation they spent a sizable amount of time talking about sleeping disorders, doing Q/A, filling out profile questionnaires, etc.

I don't know that I have sleep apnea that keeps me from sleeping a full 8 hours but my middle age prostate and bladder do. :biggrin_2559:
