No didnt get my truck until a week after orientation because I wanted the week off lol. Anyways they are hiring more drivers because once freight picks up.....they can make more money. They aren't paying you when your not moving and don't have a load. But what's hurts them is when they have loads and no drivers to deliver them. They lose more money that way. So they rather have more drivers on hand ready to go.

Freight always slows down in areas at the beginning of the year. It'll pick back up. Once your past your probationary period you can let your dbl know that if freight is slow in your region he can send you out further to an area with freight if you wish to.HotH2o Thanks this.

I should be in French Camp by Thursday if you're still sitting there lol

Freight doesn't start to pick up until March. There's a rush of freight related to spring/home improvement stuff. Think of it this way, they have you hired and you're ready to go once the rush hits. Keep in mind though that Walmart is really hurting as they've had a horrible start to the year sales wise. You could imagine that Walmart freight is going to decrease accordingly as well.HotH2o Thanks this.

Right on! How about truck upgrades? Do newer trucks get assigned by seniority or performance? My truck is old and has a funny smell. The inside was clean though so no complaints there. In the 3 days I've had it I've already had to add a gallon of oil.

There's two forms of dispatch. One is FIFO (first in first out, or you get in a line and wait your turn) and is generally in slower markets. The other type of dispatch is best available equipment (closest driver) in busier markets. There is no STATED policy of favoritism, but you probably don't want to piss off your DBL LOL
As long as your equipment is running and available they're going to utilize it regardless of age. -
Getting into a new truck is dependent on several factors.
One factor is how well your division is running. The Gary van division tends to run older equipment because their numbers suck.
The next factor is your DBL's numbers. This determines how many of the new/newer trucks in the division your DBL gets to assign to her drivers. Then it's up to your DBL to decide which driver gets a truck upgrade. -
My truck just hit 800000. It runs great, but it's slowly falling apart.
{A man is only as good as his word.} -
I had a 2005 century single sleeper with 6xxxxx miles on it. Mid January they put me in a 2010 century with 3xxxxx miles. They said I could keep my old rig but they rather have me get the into the newer rig.
