Osr / dbl would say you should have stopped further back at nearest truck stop or rest area. Even if it's 100 miles. What would happen if u got into a wreck while driving beyond your 14? Dot don't care it's only 5 miles away to parking. Sni would say driving beyond 14 and wreck you where tired and stressed from working over 14. Never Park on shoulder or ramps. You'll b fired if you get a ticket or accident. If you have to, you better be broke broke down with triangles out.

Yes it will, sni will think there's a problem and bring you in for log book and trip planning classes. If you do it again after that good chance you'll b cleaning out your tractor.

Like Moosc said, I would have stopped early. Tonight I could have gotten in to the consignee and probably gotten to a safe/legal spot. If anything went wrong I would have been caught out so I decided to stop short and deliver in the morning - even though the load will now be late.

Now if that T/S was the ONLY safe/legal option then I would have dropped the hammer and run at top safe/legal speed from the get go- overspeed be ######. If I ran out of time I would continue into the T/S and then send a mea cupa message into my DBL explaining what happened, promising several acts of contrition and promising to go forth and sin no more.

As for the sign on bonus - what SNI is trying to avoid is someone signing on, getting paid the $5,000 and then leaving after a month. A lot of 'signing bonuses' work that way. Not having to pay out in the event of a breach is a whole lot easier than getting your money back.

So there really isn't an answer to this.

    Here's what happened today:

Had to sleep in Barstow last night because of the bridge fire. Went on duty at 02:45 to deliver the load in Long Beach. Done with that and drove to LA to the dreaded Coca Cola place. They didn't like the looks of the trailer even though it was swept out three times so the trailer had to be washed and come back to get loaded. After waiting 1 1/2 hours for getting there early and no truck stops between dropping and loading and taking a chance to see if they would load early, which they were going to do if it wasn't for the trailer. So after 4 hours there, decided to find the closest truck stop and park since there was still 1 hour and 20 minutes to drive and there wasn't any place to park close by. Made it to the truck stop and parked with 5 minutes to spare. Got lucky, AGAIN, and made it. But what if?

At least no one said, should better trip plan.

Matter of opinion. I'm on a tightly scheduled account. We run from the midwest to the East coast a lot with Early Tuesday deliveries to construction sites. There is often a crane waiting to unload us. Can't head out till Sunday morning as the trailers aren't loaded until Saturday and need to reset hours. What I stated is fact. OTR van may be different for you but I've not had a problem with it. Need to find parking on a tight schedule ya do what ya have to do.

Do they still ask those 3000 questions when you trying to get in and out of the oc? And if the trailer you have is not under your dispatch they wont let u out the gate?

It all comes down to a judgement call when faced with these types of situations. I can't say I'd have done any different except maybe see if I could take my 10 at the customer (which I don't think Coke allows). Or maybe drop the trailer in a door and BT out, returning in the am.

One violation in a blue moon the driver's DBL should handle with verbal warning. Habitual log issues will see you brought in for a sit down. Last time I went over the 14 I had plenty of time to make the next T/S until a freak storm hit. It passed and now time was tight. Definitely doable but tight. Then I got stuck behind Turtle the Turtles slower cousin on the last bit of back road. Ended up being 10 minutes over the 14.

Every time I go to an OC, they ask me if I'm loaded and keeping, or whatever the case may be, then they let me in. When I try to get out, they ask me for my driver number and then, yes, if the trailer's not yet assigned to me, or there's some other problem, they tell me to back up from the gate and call my DBL (or take the trailer to maintenance) to get it fixed.

30 reps of lifting donout to mouth and then coffee to mouth. If I'm feeling ambitious I'll dunk he dounut in the coffee first, then take a bite.
